The Cloud Services team at Unity is creating many tools and services, including in the multiplayer, LiveOps, and team productivity problem spaces. We need a lead ready to align our documentation and education strategy within our organization and across the broader company, set the holistic vision for what great looks like and how to achieve it, and distribute and prioritize projects across Tech Writers, Product Managers, Developers, and Product Marketing Managers in our organization.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing documentation, samples and other artifacts across the organization, assessing the current status, and determining greatest needs.
• Creating the overall strategy and vision for documentation and education in the Cloud Services organization.
• Establish best practices, taxonomies, and templates for common documents and repositories.
• Collaborate with broader Unity initiatives to leverage existing internal tools and resources
• Collaborate closely with product management, development, and product marketing teams to ensure consistent quality materials are provided across all teams.
• Hiring and managing technical writers and establishing their career path.

Requirements

• Experience leading a team of technical writers, content managers, and/or editors.
• Experience working as a technical writer on different types of documentation such as API guides, programmer guides, installation guides, and user manuals.
• Experience writing and publishing user-facing documentation for an international audience.
• Excellent computing skills, ideally with an understanding of programming.
• Great standard of written and spoken English.
• Experience working with Cloud Services.
• Knowledge or experience of programming languages, especially C#.

Bonus points

• Passion for games or 3D content creation; experience with Unity a strong plus
• Experience producing documentation using MadCap Flare, Markdown, XML, or XMLDoc.
• Understanding of source control tools (GitHub, Mercurial).
• Experience using issue trackers such as JIRA to track project tasks.
• Alternative language fluency sufficient to review technical documentation.
