Join our knowledge and learning team at Avalara as a leader who can take our content to the next level. We’re hiring an experienced technical editor who can develop and implement end-to-end editorial processes for user interface text, help center content, and learning material.

 

About the Job

Develop and manage an editorial model that results in great content for Avalara’s customers, partners, and employees.

 

  • Collaborate with stakeholders and subject matter experts across Avalara to define, develop and maintain technical editorial standards.
  • Identify best practices for multiple properties and content types, including user interface text, help content, and training.
  • Review documentation before and after publication for style and readability.
  • Establish an efficient and productive editorial process.
  • Develop standards for a diverse author pool to make it easy for contributors to deliver consistently high-quality content.
  • Develop and implement a communications protocol to inform authors and stakeholders about editorial projects.

Required Qualifications

Be prepared to share examples demonstrating these qualifications during the interview process.

 

  • Directly relevant experience working for an enterprise software company in technical editing for user interface text and product documentation (5-7 years)
  • Excellent copy editing and developmental editing skills, including the development of terminology and style guides (5-7 years)
  • Experience with writing and editing for the web and working with Wiki markup and HTML (3-5 years)
  • Demonstrated experience writing or editing in a range of styles and tones, from highly technical to conversational (3-5 years)
  • BA/BS degree in Technical Writing, Technical Editing, Journalism, or English, or relevant professional experience

 

Extended Qualifications

  • Experience developing and managing an original editorial process for an enterprise software company (2 years)
  • Experience editing graphics, screen capture videos, and written instructions (2 years)
  • Experience editing learning content in a Learning Management System (LMS) (2 years)
