About the Role

PitchBook's news team seeks an accomplished and collaborative editor to help lead a growing, ambitious group of reporters covering the private markets. The ideal candidate is a collegial team player who has a passion and track record for producing high-quality, insightful stories. The editor comes with experience in financial journalism, is qualified to help shape reporting assignments that range from analytical think pieces to breaking news, and is intensely curious about a wide range of topics, companies, investing trends and industry issues of interest to deal-makers and other stakeholders in the private markets.

The news editor is a versatile newsroom leader who advises, directs and provides wide-ranging support to the writers and other editors across the newsroom. The editor plays a leading role in shaping and refining story ideas, identifying and assigning breaking-news assignments, line-editing articles, and writing newsletter content.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of reporters, helping set the daily and longer-term news agendas, including close collaboration with designers and other editors.
  • Coach reporters to help sharpen their journalism and advance their talent development.
  • Monitor and evaluate news developments for possible coverage via real-time news channels and for deeper, longer-term story opportunities.
  • Edit stories to ensure they deliver on expectations and meet deadlines, and adhere to PitchBook news standards.
  • Contribute to writing, news graphics and other production needs of PitchBook's newsletters.
  • Work with broader PitchBook editorial and research colleagues to drive new projects or news innovations that advance objectives of the news team.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must be a collegial, collaborative team player who can motivate, mentor and support reporters.
  • Ability to help reporters digest and translate for readers complex financial and tech subject matter with an engaging, effective and authoritative voice.
  • Skill in interpreting data sets to identify story lines and opportunities for visualizations of the data.
  • Strong command of writing and editing for a wide-ranging audience that spans professional and everyday readers.
  • Proven track record juggling multiple projects under various deadlines.
  • Five years of relevant work experience in a financial news organization, preferably as an editor managing reporters in digital media.
  • Bachelor's Degree with focus on Journalism, Finance or related major.
