About the Role:
As the head of our graphic design and copy editing functions, the Publishing Manager will work with a talented team to manage the last mile of our research production process. This role calls for deep expertise in publishing both digital and printed content. Excellent communication and collaboration across multiple functions will be a key priority to ensure high standards of quality are met. You should enjoy innovating and creating content in all aspects, from graphic design to managing high-volume production schedules, to developing content strategy and effectively distributing workloads. This role will also include collaboration with other lead stakeholders, including members of our institutional research, editorial and marketing departments.
The Publishing team sits between the Institutional Research and Editorial departments at PitchBook. The team is responsible for the design, editing and final distribution of PitchBook’s industry-leading private markets research. This team of designers and copy editors focus on excellence in storytelling across all relevant avenues, from visual design, to innovation in depictions of data, to the strength and accuracy of our theses and research arguments.
The job conditions for this position are primarily remote at the moment, with voluntary attendance at PitchBook’s offices, but they will return to a relatively flexible hybrid situation at a later date. Employees in this position use PC and phone on an ongoing basis throughout the day. Limited corporate travel may be required to remote offices or other business meetings and events.
Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage and be accountable for the PitchBook Publishing team and its professional success and growth – a passion for nurturing and growing talent is a must
  • Assist hiring efforts, including sourcing talent, conducting interviews and more in collaboration with recruiting team
  • Collaborate with the design and copy editing team leads to project manage end-to-end production schedules
  • Partner with research, editorial, marketing and product stakeholders to develop processes and systems that expand the reach of our digital research publications
  • Partner with business intelligence analysts to gain relevant data and insights that inform team strategy and day-to-day operations
  • Develop and manage process documentation practices
  • Identify and implement training and tools that drive the team forward

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 9+ years of relevant digital publishing experience
  • Strong leadership experience, especially in managing team leads
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing teams of editors and/or designers
  • Track record of collaboration with other team leads in relevant functions
  • Superb creative and technical skills spanning design and/or editing
  • Talented storyteller
  • Track record of executing on cross-departmental initiatives in collaboration with other creative stakeholders
  • A strong relationship builder who can work collaboratively with and influence stakeholders across diverse teams at all levels of the company, including executives
  • Experience successfully scaling a variety of marketing programs across global channels
  • Ability to manage changing requirements, multiple overlapping projects and prioritization of incoming requests against business needs.
  • Strong ability to challenge the status quo and pursue new ways of thought and passionate about developing and testing new ideas that will help our customers win
  • Highly self-motivated and will thrive in ambiguity, in an environment that requires an ability to learn and adapt quickly
  • Advanced communications skillset that fosters a high degree of efficient collaboration
  • Familiarity with and knowledge of current digital publishing technologies and/or content management systems
  • Proficiency with the MS Office suite including in-depth knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel with the ability to pick up new systems and software easily
  • Proficiency in relevant design tools, e.g., Adobe Creative Suite
