Senior Copywriter

Seattle/Portland
Are you the grammar police amongst your friends? Do you have a solid stance on the Oxford comma?

Yesler is hiring a Senior Copywriter to help with its ever-expanding business! Senior Copywriters draft all kinds of collateral-from ads to blogs to eBooks and case studies-for a variety of clients as part of an integrated marketing team. Duties include working with other roles in Creative, including designers, web staff, editors, and other writers; conducting research and interviews; crafting story structure and flexing tone to address the intended audience; writing to style; and helping to improve the Yesler writing process overall.

The Senior Copywriter will flex to support collaborative and efficient team work and have a role in setting and ensuring that collaborative, productive work process. They maintain an open and creative posture to problem solving. Responding and incorporating feedback with grace is a trademark feature of the role

Responsibilities:

  • Understand Yesler's creative service offering in a holistic way
  • Understand Yesler's capabilities across the agency
  • Be part of the creative process and offer strong recommendations to produce the best work for our clients
  • Write in clear, engaging, and persuasive manner. 
  • Help develop best practices to improve writing and content development processes.
  • Research new and emerging topics using available resources.
  • Confidently interview customers, clients, subject matter experts, and others to gather information.
  • Write a variety of content types, including:
    • Blogs
    • Business articles
    • Case studies, customer stories
    • Ebooks
    • Marketing collateral
    • Presentation speaker notes and slide content
    • Social copy, ads, and headlines
    • Web, email, and landing page content
  • Collaborate and consult with a large team of account managers, content strategists, art directors, designers, editors, and other writers.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices as content evolves for mobile technology
  • Maintain consistent level of quality across projects and schedules.
  • Support all-up company goals and integration with other groups.
  • Generate new ideas and seek new responsibilities/learning opportunities.
  • Advocate for quality and the writing process.

Requirements

  • A degree in English (composition or literature), communications, or marketing preferred.
  • 5+ years' experience in an agency, newsroom, or similar fast-paced setting.
  • Detail-oriented, with an ability to self-edit
  • Expert knowledge of grammar and spelling
  • Ability to establish and maintain tone; provide guidance to others to help them shift to tone or design to tone
  • Experience working in the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite a plus
  • Experience applying strategies across different digital channels
  • Comfort with learning and troubleshooting new tools and software as processes change
  • Ability to communicate clearly and provide constructive direction and feedback
  • Understanding of a mobile-first approach and what it means for content to be digital ready a plus
  • Can thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Sense of humor, humility, and confidence required
