The Senior Data Engineer is a member of Funko’s decision platform. The role will be responsible to deliver/ maintain high quality software and BI through personal example and by mentoring other members of the team along the way. The Data Engineer, through their knowledge of the system and data, will discuss and explain information in reports, and will, together with the program managers, be a key part of our software adoption plan.

Your Superpowers in Action

  • Design, architect, implement and maintain and support highly scalable and performant Enterprise Data Warehouses including, but not limited to; automation of the data pipes, built-in monitoring, telemetry and DQ test suites, environment, object and data-level access policies, usage and performance telemetry, and data security and encryption
  • Create and maintain best in class documentation clearly articulating technical and functional architecture components, and their interdependencies, supported by adequate architectural artifacts and analyses including, but not limited to; information flow diagrams, component/ block diagrams and reference architecture, process diagrams and analyses of technical approaches, risks and costs – including software and hardware/ cloud costs, and cost/benefit analysis
  • Assist in development of data governance policies, including, but not limited to; user access and rights, purge, retention, persistence and disaster recovery and data quality and certification
  • Participate in business requirements analyses, program management and release operations, including; partnering with business analysts in operations, sales, finance, marking and product development to understand underlying motivations behind each requirement and understanding and clearly articulating technical risks, dependencies and providing a well-reasoned release plan
  • Develop and implement system health monitoring and maintenance plan including; software installation, upgrades and license/key maintenance and server stability, health and performance
  • Monitor, manage and provide regular reporting on system issues and resolutions
  • Participate in Enterprise Architecture development including integration of new applications 

Must-Have Superhero Gadgetry

  • Minimum 10 years of experience working with enterprise-grade data warehouses
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Computer Science/ Information Systems Management
  • Solid computer science foundation including data structures, algorithms and software design
  • Mastery of Microsoft SQL server suite including, but not limited to T-SQL, Integration Services (SSIS), Analysis Services (SSAS) including OLAP and Tabular Cubes, Reporting Services (SSRS), Agent/Broker tools; parallelization, partitioning and indexing technologies, and profiling tools
  • Hands on experience with cloud services (Azure, AWS), including creating schedulers, worker roles and messaging architecture and cloud analytics
  • Hands on experience in development/collaboration/release platforms: BitBucket, Visual Studio, JIRA, GitHub & Jenkins
  • Hands-on experience with Test Automation and Continuous Integration & Continuous Deployment (CICD)
  • Deep experience in server/cloud provisioning, configuration and tuning
  • Expertise in non-SQL data sources including, but not limited to; MySQL, APIs, Big Data, Data Lake, Text & Graph data
  • Expertise in C#/Java, and good skills in scripting using PowerShell or the like
  • Some exposure to UNIX/LINUX
  • Some exposure to statistical/mining software like R/Python & Azure ML and visualization tools such as Power BI/ Tableau a definite plus
