Blue Nile is undergoing a once-in-a-decade data warehouse infrastructure overhaul, and we are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to help guide and develop the migration of our data into the cloud. This individual will serve as our SME for AWS Business Intelligence solutions and will mentor other developers on the team to level up in cloud technologies.  The success of this project is crucial to unlock our ability to Win with Data and Analytics (one of our strategic pillars) and this role will be a key contributor to help us achieve this goal.  The Senior Data Engineer will report to the Director of Data Engineering in the Analytics organization at Blue Nile. The ideal candidate for this position has already successfully led previous migrations of on-prem data warehouse solutions into AWS and is equipped with hard-won, hands-on knowledge of cloud warehousing best practices.  Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to mentor fellow teammates are required.

Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership role in the design, development, maintenance, and usage of Data Warehouse & Business Intelligence
• Design and engineer ETL solutions for batch and stream processing of on-prem data into the cloud
• Continuously research and evolve ETL/ELT/data pipeline strategies to optimize sourcing, storage, and querying of data
• Develop roadmap for data & analytics team
• Ensure team priorities are aligned with company/business strategy
• Lead project teams in delivery of significant projects
• Research and assess applicability of big data platforms and cloud technologies
• Work with internal business and analytics stakeholders on data ingestion and data “shaping” to meet business needs
• Ability to provide leadership/guidance on multiple projects
• Identify and promote best practices for data modeling
• Provide oversight for all activities related to data cleansing, data quality, and data consolidation using standard methods and processes
• Mentor fellow teammates on cloud ETL/BI tools

Qualifications for Sr. Data Engineer

• Extensive Business Intelligence architecture and development experience with data warehousing and data lakes. (7+ years)
• Expert level understanding of relational databases concepts and SQL (7+ years)
• Proven data warehouse planning, strategy, architecture experience including migrating from on-prem solutions to the cloud
• Experience working with Redshift, Snowflake, or other MPP databases. (3+ years)
• Expert level knowledge and experience with AWS BI solutions, such as AWS Data Pipeline, Amazon Kinesis, Amazon EMR, AWS Glue, and Amazon Redshift. (3+ years)
• Experience working with large data marts which are scalable and finely tuned for online interactive reporting
• High level of proficiency developing ETL/data science solutions with Python. (Knowledge of pandas and Boto3 helpful)
• Strong data modeling skills (multidimensional/star schemas)
• Proven track record delivering high quality features to production using agile methodologies
• Strong communication and leadership skills and ability to mentor and help level up other team members
• Experience working with e-Commerce data is highly desirable.
• Experience with Snowflake, Databricks and Tableau are a plus
