The in-car and connected devices experience consists of both hardware devices and software applications that are used together to allow first responders to better serve communities around the world. This is the IoT of public safety. Products include connected in-car camera systems, sensors, body cameras and smart TASER devices as well as in-car software and mobile applications. You will be thinking about both the end-user experience of first responders and the public as well as how to set up and manage smarts connected devices at scale.

Your Day-to-Day:

• Lead design across out Connected Devices products including our in-car experience, body cameras, smart TASER devices and sensors, interview room solutions and in-car and mobile software applications. You and your team own the full design process, from initial research/discovery and product definition, through concepting, detailed design, testing, working with Engineering and PM on implementation, and interacting with customers to get their feedback along the way.
• Partner closely with Product Management and Engineering leadership on product strategy, definition and ongoing product evolution and execution.
• Be key member of the Axon Product Design and UX Research leadership team working together with others leaders to evolve the discipline at the company.
• Manage and grow a team of talented Product Designers working a range of HW and SW products (in-car HW/SW, Body Worn Camera HW/SW, smart TASER devices, Interview Room HW/SW).
• Own recruiting and hiring talent for your team and participate in hiring across the larger Product Design and Product Management & Engineering organizations keeping a high bar.
• Pitch product strategy and feature ideas at any level of the company including the executive team.
• Turn complex interactions involving a diverse set of users, a complex physical environment, social interactions, regional differences, and an ecosystem of hardware devices and software applications into simple experience solutions.
• Collaborate with UX Research and Product Management to initiate, execute, and extract insights using a variety of research methods: observational, interviews, participatory, usability testing, competitive analysis, etc.
• Collaborate with other Product Design leaders across the company to ensure great user experiences across all of our products. Contribute to defining the general Product Design vision, principles ,and process at Axon.
• Be an ambassador and champion for Product Design & UX Research in and outside of the company.

Basic Qualifications

• 12+ years of Product Design experience with at least 6 years of leading major product design initiatives working on complex web or mobile applications through multiple product cycles.
• At least 5 years experience managing Product Design teams.
• At least 2 years experience with hardware interaction design.
• At least 2 years experience working directly with executive level stakeholders on product strategy.
• A Bachelor's degree in Interaction Design, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, HCI or related field.
• You enjoy collaborating on early product definition as much as you enjoy working with the larger Product and Engineering teams on implementation.
• You have a proven track record of applying user-centered design processes and methodology to product definition, design, and development. You have deep experience with every stage of the design process, including: research, sketches, wireframes, high fidelity mock-ups, prototyping, and usability testing.
• You have strong conceptual skills and proven ability to rapidly whiteboard or prototype to communicate ideas to others.
• You have experience with design for multiple form factors including web, mobile, or on-device, and modalities like touch, voice and keyboard/mouse.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills: you can explain your ideas and decisions in a way that anyone can understand..
• A great portfolio available for review.

Preferred Qualifications

• A Master's degree in Interaction Design, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, HCI or related field.
• Experience with designing products with geospatial considerations is consider a big plus.
• Experience with designing products for in the car is considered a big plus.
• Experience working on Design Systems is considered a plus.
• Experience with real time communication product design is consider a plus.
