Our Opportunity:

This role can be based in one of our four locations (Bellevue, WA, Minneapolis, MN, Boston, MA, Dania Beach, FL) or potentially remote. Chewy is dedicated to being the most trusted and convenient online destination for pet parents (and partners), everywhere. The New Verticals Team is a newly founded start-up organization within Chewy that is tasked with building novel businesses and experiences that have the potential to drive Chewy's future growth. Our goal is to innovate from within Chewy, crafting experiences that aim to delight and connect pet parents.

We are seeking a foundational Lead Product Designer, Social & Community, to join the New Verticals team. The ideal candidate will be a strategic and visionary thinker adept designing innovative, well-crafted, customer-centric mobile experiences. You know how to create large scale community powered UGC products that delight, engage and inspire pet parents in the most elegant and enjoyable way possible. This requires thinking big, continuous innovation, a bias for action, coupled with thoughtful experimentation.

What You’ll Do:

  • Build end to end user experiences: Discovery and concept ideation, flows and wireframes, full-fidelity prototype designs, functional specs.
  • Transform customer and business objectives into engaging social products that are feasible to build.
  • Innovate across a range of products, platforms, and devices with a bias for action and crisp management of multiple priorities.
  • Collaborate with product managers, developers, content strategists, user researchers, and other designers.
  • Create designs, prototypes and artifacts to facilitate user testing and apply learnings to designs
  • Champion invention and innovation to unite a growing suite of products
  • Clearly present your design process, inspiration, and decisions
  • Collaborate with engineering to ensure visual quality and finesse of the product and user experience
  • Nurture Chewy's culture and principles within the group, and set new standards for executional and operational excellence.

  • 7+ years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, information architect, or similar role.
  • 4+ years of experience leading large-scale mobile initiatives
  • Most recent 2+ years designing interactive UGC social experiences for iOS and Android
  • A track record of designing high-quality digital products that delivered results and demonstrate the depth of your design leadership skills; illustrated in a portfolio or case studies.
  • Achieved mastery of a core set of design skills in interaction design, information architecture, and user interface design.
  • Demonstrated communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills that communicate complex concepts clearly
  • A proven ability to evaluate the customer and business impact of your design decisions inside and outside of your own product area.
  • Bachelor's degree (or an equivalent degree) in Design, HCI, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience with the design field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing complex UGC mobile products and experiences
  • Demonstrated ability to manage end to end process from discovery to delivery
  • Thrives in fast paced, start-up environment
  • Can flex in other areas such as IA or UX/UI or VD

An Insider's view of Chewy

What’s the vibe like in the office?

Fast paced! We work in "doggy-years" here. It's a place where talent and hard work is valued and where team members can think big and can bring their dreams to life.

Senior Technical Recruiter

What projects are you most excited about?

I'd say our new onboarding program, which educates and immerses Chewy’s new hires in our business, mission, and Operating Principles. I hope new Chewtopians walk away from our revamped onboarding experience with a deeper understanding of what makes Chewy special and that it helps them build connections with their fellow new team members.

Senior Talent Manager

What are some things you learned at the company?

Creating a work environment that is accessible to everyone attracts a diverse talent pool and unlocks talents and skills that might not be available otherwise.

Sr. Accessibility Program Manager

How do you make yourself accessible to the rest of the team?

Aside from the standard 1x1s and team meetings: 24/7 via text, email, chat, voice and during business hours by walking around the office engaging in conversation, listening to current challenges and proposed solutions.

VP, Software Engineering

What’s the vibe like in the office?

My favorite Operating Principle here at Chewy is “Debate Openly, Commit Fully.” It makes me comfortable having passionate disagreements with my coworkers about a project when appropriate, knowing that we can have a (zoom) beer later that day and feel OK about it. Every company strives for that culture, and it's a part of our DNA at Chewy.
