You empower others to apply design thinking methodologies to the work they do, teaching and guiding them to help scale content design work across more areas of the product and content experience.

 

We’re looking for an innovative and highly collaborative content designer to join us. Our team creates content experiences for Azure Data customers spanning the web and our amazing premises platforms, including UX writing, documentation, and video.

 

The Azure Data Design team brings warmth, humanity, and clarity to our customers’ experience with Microsoft products. Our work creates the conversation we have with millions of customers through their interactions with our products and help content. We design for impact, and we emphasize a learning mindset no matter what we’re working on.

Responsibilities

 

You’ll work with our world-class designers, content creators, and engineering teams. You’ll lead others to create new content experiences, and your work will help customers learn, solve their problems, and get the most out of our products. Data will inform how you improve experiences and content to help millions of customers around the world get their jobs done.

 

• Own the responsibility for the quality of in-product strings and content, focused on educating our customers and providing improved customer satisfaction.
• Help drive down support costs via self-help and diagnostic content for customers.
• Write and edit friendly, clear UI text that fits with our voice and tone principles.
• Have a good understanding of localization and accessibility needs.
• Influence others to understand great content design work and ship it quickly.
• Be accomplished at presenting written content to peers, partners, and management in ways that bring the customer story to life.
• Adapt to a deeply technical space that supports a vibrant ecosystem around the data estate that is constantly evolving in technical capability.
• Have an understanding of fundamental design principles around visual and interaction design and how they apply to the overall content strategy.
• Develop a broader perspective on Azure Data products, the technical/social ecosystem within which they work, evaluate cross-product opportunities and integrate diverse perspectives into the product’s content/messaging strategy.
• Have a strong focus on mentoring others on content design and its effective application in software.
• Have strong project management skills to keep projects on track in a variety of team environments.

Qualifications

 

• A degree in English, Technical Communications, Journalism, Creative Writing or a related field.
• 8+ year’s industry experience in the technical or content writing field with a track record helping customers understand the interaction experiences of solutions across interfaces and user assistance.
• A portfolio of past work that demonstrates your writing samples and content design capabilities.

 

Optional:
• Experience with HTML, JSON, Wiki, and markdown.
• Experience writing UX copy for business customers.
• An understanding of design tools in use today – mainly Figma and Sketch.
• Knowledge of methods for gathering, analyzing and responding in design to user research data and business requirements.
• Understanding of the technical side of the data ecosystem – the storage, use and storytelling capabilities of modern data engineers/scientists and DBAs.
