At Facebook AR/VR, we are inventing the future. We are looking for a UX Researcher with excellent communication and partnership skills. Strong candidates will demonstrate a rigorous, mixed-methods approach to cognitive human factors methods as well as have experience shipping consumer software and hardware. We value UX researchers with experience in standard generative and evaluative research methods, but who also have a history of taking a creative approach to answering new questions about humans’ interaction and experience with technology. You will work with multi-disciplinary hardware and software teams to push the boundaries of what is possible in the AR/VR product space. Ultimately, your expertise and ingenuity in research must do more than just contribute to knowledge – you must also be skilled at driving measurable positive impact on product and the user experience.


UX Researcher Responsibilities

  • Design & conduct research across key HMD (head-mounted display) and glasses factors such as inputs & interaction model, ergonomics, comfort & fit, privacy & security, accessibility, health & safety, social acceptability, usability, & even fashion

  • Develop & maintain human factors design criteria to aid in the design of AR/VR & consumer devices and accessories

  • Operationalize research insights into actionable, measurable UX goals and ensure accountability across the development lifecycle

  • Drive impact through a range of qualitative/quantitative research approaches and tools

  • Work closely with partner teams (perceptual science, industrial design, hardware engineering, software UX design and research) to create a full picture of end users’ experience, including tradeoffs & dependencies across workstreams

  • Create close partnerships with a variety of research and product stakeholders to ensure a full understanding of the product team needs and priorities

  • Effectively communicate findings & recommendations to engineering & leadership stakeholders

    Minimum Qualifications

    • MS in Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, HCI, Perceptual Psychology, or a related field

    • 3+ years experience in UX and/or industrial design in the devices or space

    • Experience working across the full product lifecycle

    • Experience working as the primary investigator on a project

      Preferred Qualifications

      • PhD in Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, HCI, Perceptual Psychology, or a related field

      • Experience shipping consumer devices, including wearable technologies

      • Experience with AR/VR technologies
