Code.org is a non-profit organization dedicated to growing participation in computer science by making it available in more schools and increasing participation by young women and underrepresented students. Our vision is that every student in every school should have the opportunity to learn computer science. We believe computer science should be part of the core curriculum, alongside other courses such as mathematics, biology, chemistry, or algebra!


JOB SUMMARY


As the CTO/VP of Engineering at Code.org, you’ll have ultimate responsibility for our engineering and technology, a computer science learning platform supporting millions of teachers and tens of millions of students, and for managing the team of software engineers that create and support this platform. Reporting to Code.org’s CEO, your role would be to set the technical strategy and vision for our product. You will manage a team that designs and builds accessible and engaging experiences, creates scalable and sustainable software, balances feature delivery and timelines, and delivers excellent live site availability for our millions of students and teachers around the world.


You will manage, mentor, and support the growth of the 25 engineers and 3 engineering managers on your team. You will be responsible for sustaining an inclusive, welcoming, and productive team culture and work environment. 


As a member of the Code.org executive team, you will have organization-wide impact establishing long-term strategy and supporting the team’s ability to achieve top-level goals, positive educational outcomes, and learning in the classroom.


SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS


As our ideal candidate, you have the following qualifications and experience:


• Passion for our mission of growing access to computer science education

• Experience in leading cross functional product teams, including software engineering, product management, and design.

• 8+ years professional software engineering experience to provide technical mentoring, design, and architectural guidance to team members

• 10+ years as a people manager, having led teams of software engineers

• Demonstrated experience as a product manager or designer providing the product vision for consumer-facing technologies.

• Demonstrated experience hiring, building, and developing diverse teams of software engineers

• Proven ability to guide the planning and execution of software projects, balance trade-offs, and deliver on schedule

• Experience supporting a production high-scale web-based software product or service


Code.org is based in Seattle, but many team members are remote. Candidates able to work in Seattle preferred but remote candidates are welcome and encouraged to apply.

• Must pass a pre-employment background check
