The majority of people don’t think about all of the rules that companies need to follow just to operate. Routine state and local compliance flies below the radar, and the two large players that dominate the industry have changed very little in the last 120 years. This dated, yet $5 billion industry is ripe for disruption! We’re looking for a hands-on technology leader to help us make it happen.

About you:

You have a track record as a full-stack developer who can showcase your past experience to create simple and beautiful tools for managing deadline-driven activities and collaboration across multiple organizations. You excel at stitching together systems to present customers with a seamless product that is an order of magnitude beyond the sum of its parts. You also have experience building and managing a team of engineers who report directly to you. You’ve got a strong knack for product and can partner with our CEO and founder to shape strategy, anticipate needs, and can either roll up your sleeves to code solutions yourself or direct a team towards building these solutions. You’re an incredible project manager who can direct a small team of engineers that will own the experience for both companies and law firms. That means being the product and tech mastermind behind creating business process automation workflows for corporate compliance. You work independently and love shipping product on a regular basis. We’re creating something that doesn’t exist in the world yet, so you won’t just be adding value through your code, but to your insights on the needs of our customer and the business--and your ability to translate these insights into best-in-class tech solutions that make creators say, “wow.”

As the CTO, you’ll...

  • Serve as a thought leader and strategy driver for the team along with the CEO and founder. Build and embody the company’s culture and mission
  • Build, build, build: especially in the early days, you’ll be rolling up your sleeves and writing code, from architecture to fixing finicky bugs
  • Recruit a killer team, managing staffing, mentoring, maintaining and bettering a best-in-class engineering team that loves coming into work every day
  • Partner with the business and design teams to understand the customer and shape product vision and requirements
  • Develop the long-term strategy for the company and translate that into an achievable road map
  • Understand how all elements of the software lifecycle work together and develop quality engineering approaches to define the overall architecture
  • Create integrations with various 3rd-party APIs and software solutions (wholesale registered agent APIs, credit card processing, messaging, etc..)
  • Design test strategies and create appropriate test harnesses, data, and tools that increase the speed of sprint cycles and allow for constant high quality results
  • Get to know our customer (or know them well already) and use that empathy to inform building an exceptional product
  • Maintain and build on top of the initial version of the webapp (Heroku, Django, React)

This job might be for you if...

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline
  • 5+ years of relevant software engineering experience
  • 5+ years of team management experience
  • You’ve got experience scaling a company
  • You understand security and compliance issues involved with legal tech
  • Have experience partnering with the business side of the house on business and budget planning
  • You’ve worked on business process automation tools
  • You love the idea of upsetting the status quo and shaping the future of an industry, by imagining and building the tools that enable that future

We are an equal opportunity employer and highly value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
