Position Summary:

We are looking for a visionary pragmatic thought leader to lead the cloud transformation of our development infrastructure and architect the next generation CI/CD pipeline to support delivery of our modern apps!

The Common Engineering Development & Infrastructure team is a critical team that is not just responsible for the infrastructure our engineering teams rely on, as part of the Office of the CTO we are the enablers of the continued evolution of development practices. We need an architect experienced in Cloud infrastructure, CI/CD methodologies, DevOps and SRE practices to help lead the way as we seek to reinforce and build on a culture of continuous improvement and increasing collaboration and efficiency. Working closely with engineering and technology leaders across the company, this person will be helping establish state of the art development practices, infrastructure templates that allow for self-service and increased automation and enabling development teams to evolve workflows and practices.

Common Engineering owns the full stack of infrastructure from physical labs and on-prem equipment, private cloud deployments, CI/CD infrastructure, operations, and management of engineering tooling as well as cloud deployment infrastructure and patterns to ensure engineering teams can operate effectively in all environments.

You will be responsible for developing and implementing cloud solutions across a diverse range of projects, which can include application development, identity/access management, network, and data management. You will often work in coordination with other departments to implement changes in architecture and communicate well with other organizational teams and support them in their respective endeavors.

You will lead teams in improving CI/CD methodologies and serve as mentor to all engineering levels. Partner with management on driving product strategies, project objectives and timelines. Participate in multi-functional design projects, serving as consultant to top management in long-range company planning concerning new or projected areas of technological research/advancement. Generate and promote new theories, concepts, principles and methodologies within software and hardware manufacturing.

Keep your eye on the latest technologies and tools that can improve efficiency and effectiveness. Present in both internal and external settings on development methodology and technical advancements, recommending long term technical direction and influence product roadmap.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide multi cloud expertise and standard methodologies for cloud infrastructure patterns for security and cost management
  • Architect the hybrid cloud CI/CD strategy and serve as the primary source of technical expertise in the organization.
  • Develop a strategic roadmap incorporating emerging business/industry trends into company development pipelines.
  • Lead the transformation and migration of internal on-prem services to cloud native solutions.
  • Establish key infrastructure monitoring and alerting, version management, security to enable the delivery of key engineering products and services.
  • Work with security organization and the CISO to ensure the CI/CD pipeline and related services are following best security practices and compliance requirements such as ISO 27001.
  • Work with other product architects to establish quality checkpoints to make sure the input is of quality and conforms to the architecture strategy.
  • Coach and provide recommendations for monitoring of services and establishing of self-service templates.
  • Recommend and coach planning for required tools and ecosystem integrations to drive seamless publishing of builds and integration of components.
  • Recommends and maintains technical design methodologies, processes, technologies, and standards for CI/CD.
  • Work with other technology leaders to design guardrails within the pipeline and without, to assist engineers in achieving compliance with architectural and compliance constraints.
  • Lead multi-functional design teams to develop new pipelines as well as address design issues and maintenance of existing ones.
  • Regularly informs top management and senior external personnel on our company’s technical capabilities and recommendations for future direction.
  • Educate, evangelize, and build relationships with other engineering teams to enable their effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Act as a mentor for other junior members in the team.
  • with your domain expertise, you will lead the analysis of the current practices and design and implement standard methodologies and emerging concepts in CI/CD landscape.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated understanding of SRE principles.
  • You are an expert in architecting and setting up CI/CD pipeline enabling daily releases.
  • Internally and externally recognized as a premier technical, industry or product specialist.
  • Industry respected speaker, participating in both internal and external events a strong plus.
  • Experience leading complex product development projects and initiatives from concept through release.
  • Deep understanding of and experience with public cloud infrastructure and APIs.
  • Extensive development experience in software development with continuous integration and deployment of cloud-based modern applications.
  • Extraordinary problem solving and project management skills.
  • Strong leadership skills and an ability to mentor and build team members.
  • Strong communication skills (written / verbal) with varied audiences
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communications.
  • Able to collaborate and thrive in a dynamic high-performance environment.
  • Prior experience in designing and implementing services and CICD pipelines for large enterprises with 99.9% uptime.
  • Experience in architecting and delivering multi-cloud solutions on at least 2 cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, GCP, vSphere, Openstack, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience designing and implementing collaborative and scalable solutions on AWS and Azure.
  • Extensive experience in developing and deploying multi-cloud distributed microservices-based applications.
  • Has demonstrated depth and breadth of expertise in multiple related fields, such as networking, security, and technology domains.
  • Has demonstrated experience in DevOps model leading the architecture in an agile manner - ideally lived through multiple product releases and cycles.
  • Experience explaining difficult concepts to decision makers to help shape technology strategy.
  • Strong hands-on experience in Linux/Unix in private and public cloud environments and scripting languages like Unix Shell and Python and have built many DevOps CICD pipelines from the ground up.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with Docker, SonarQube, Git, Microservices and container deployment and service orchestration with thorough experience with Blue-Green Deployment to reduce downtime and risk and provide continuous deployment and fast rollback.
  • Experience with managing sensitive private configuration data using tools like Etcd, Consul, or Vault and other tools with experience in implementing pipeline monitoring using Prometheus, Splunk, AppDynamics etc.
  • Experience with CICD tooling that includes artifact generation and management using such tools as Artifactory.
  • Experience with visualization and logging services using tools such as Kibana, Grafana, and Elastic.
  • A thought leader in driving infrastructure as code and DevOps practices using various configuration management tools like Ansible, Terraform, SaltStack, Puppet or Chef.
  • May require the ability to travel via automobile or airplane, with up to 10% of the time spent traveling.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Requires a minimum of 15 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 12 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD with 8 years of experience; or equivalent experience.
  • English fluency.
