The Chef Customer Success Team operates globally, and includes Customer Success Management, Technical Success, Professional Services, and Support. These teams work together closely to execute on programs and playbooks that enable our customers to become successful and grow.

Customer Architects work with Chef's customers to develop, engineer, and guide implementation of their automation strategy. They work with customers to identify and prioritize business problems; define key metrics; design automated solutions; apply Chef products and technology; identify and overcome impediments (technical and organizational); review results; celebrate wins; and repeat.

This position requires 30-40% travel to work with customers onsite. This role will work primarily with accounts based in the US Pacific timezone.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead customers in application of Chef products towards meaningful goals, including help in designing architecture to meet business goals, as well as aiding in overcoming blockers
  • Manage a portfolio of client accounts, focusing on using technology to enable their businesses
  • Work with the account team (Customer Success Manager, Regional Sales Director, and Solutions Architect) to define and execute account strategy
  • Be your customers’ champion inside of Chef, advocating for them with Support, Product, Engineering, and other groups
  • Recommend product improvements based on customers’ experiences

Desired Qualifications: (If you have a few of these, we’d like to talk to you)

  • Expert-level working knowledge of Chef OSS Software, including Chef, InSpec, and/or Habitat
  • Experience administering Chef Automate
  • Experience in using Continuous Delivery practices to release to production
  • Empathy and understanding of the work engineers, architects, managers, and others do in building, releasing, and maintaining software
  • Yak shaving proficiency (or experience debugging complex technical issues at every level of a modern application stack)
  • Coding skills, particularly Ruby
  • Operations skills, Linux and/or Windows, running production infrastructures for high-availability, high-volume web services
  • Experience using Agile and/or Lean techniques, such as XP, Scrum, and Kanban
  • Experience engaging with the Chef Open Source community
  • Familiarity with cloud native design patterns, microservices, and modern web scale architectures
  • Skill navigating organizations and creating alliances to resolve problems
