Job Overview

PB Labs is an R&D team who has a clear mission: leverage cutting-edge machine learning and cloud technologies to automatically research millions of private companies and process hundreds of millions of news articles.  Our team is also responsible for building out microservices to improve the PitchBook Platform’s search and discovery capabilities.  We exist within the Product organization, collaborating with Product Managers and Designers.

As a DevOps engineer on PB Labs, you’ll be responsible for helping us architect and manage our cloud infrastructure, making sure that our services can scale and that we can meet our SLAs. You’ll also be responsible for maintaining and improving our CI/CD system, ensuring we can rapidly iterate and improve on our services.  We have pushed over 60+ microservices into production and this role is crucial to the maintenance and stability of those services.

Responsibilities

Monitoring of Production Systems

  • Drive dashboard, metrics, alarming, and notification initiatives
  • Drive better understanding of current AWS spend, initiatives to reduce cost
  • Maintain infrastructure and tools

Scaling and Performance

  • Help define SLAs for crucial services
  • Implement and help manage scaling on services to meet performance targets

Security and Access

  • Identify and implement security best practices for applications and end users
  • Monitor applications for potential security risks

CI/CD

  • Identify technologies and best practices for CI/CD
  • Drive implementation of fully-automated pipelines
  • Assist in rolling out CI/CD processes to existing codebases

Collaboration

  • Provide engineers with operational support (e.g. in creating/troubleshooting deployments)
  • Create documentation and tooling to support team
  • Coordinate devops efforts with partner team in Ukraine
  • Follow an Agile/Scrum workflow

Requirements

  • B.S. in Computer Science, IT, or related field
  • At least 1-3 years managing cloud computing services (e.g AWS, Google Cloud, Azure)
  • Expertise in Linux
  • Expertise in networking
  • Experience with container technologies (e.g. Docker)
  • Proficiency in two or more scripting languages (e.g. shell, Python, Groovy)
  • Proficiency with version control software (e.g. Git, SVN)

Preferred

  • At least 1-3 years provisioning clusters and/or administering container-orchestration systems (e.g Kubernetes, DCOS)
  • At least 1-3 years implementing and/or managing CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, GitLab CI)
