Pivotal is seeking a customer facing Software Engineer that will have the dual purpose of embedded application development as well as custom one off development for special projects. This is an opportunity to work on multiple fast-paced projects while working closely with a diverse group of scientists, engineers and business leaders in a dynamic environment.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to think creatively and to operate within a flexible, fast-paced program dedicated to advancing turnkey software application solutions that help run state of the art Holographic Beamforming Antenna systems. This position reports to the Embedded Software Development Manager.

Responsibilities:

•Work in a small team of developers on application layer embedded Linux projects through an agile iterative scrum process and participate in team initiatives

•Understand the full software and hardware breakdown of a product that is under development and ensure that development is towards product specifications

•Responsible for multiple product development initiates that run in parallel

•Ensure the delivery of high-quality software by using proven architecture techniques, design review processes, and efficient code as well as testing

•Work with internal product management, engineering and business stakeholders to develop GUIs and software to “talk-to” / connect with hardware through interface controls, microcontrollers

•Implement prototype software on prototype hardware with production intent

•Travel to and interact with external customers as needed

•Interact with product development, program management, other multi-discipline engineers and business leaders on deliverables and status of projects

Required Qualifications:

•Bachelor’s degree in EE, CE, CS or related degree with related industry experience as an Embedded Software Engineer, Firmware Engineer or related title

•Experienced with or ability to demonstrate the ability to through a product development cycle that includes conceptualization, architecture, design, development, testing, deployment and customer support

•Embedded Linux user space application development experience (multi-threading, IPC experience, priority-based scheduling, run-to-completion, kernel-based OS concepts, client-server architectures)

•Experience using telecom OAMP systems, OSI Layer 7, https, ssh, mqtt, snmp or related type solutions

•C/C++ and Python proficiency

•Experience rapid prototyping GUIs and CLIs using Python, Qt or other widget tools

•Proficiency with ARM-based hardware platforms and associated development

•Familiarity with the GNU toolchain, build processes, software release processes, versioning control, defect tracking tools, the software life cycle; etc.

•Experience with Object Oriented SW design, client server architectures

•Experience with network protocols, security protocols

Desirable Expertise:

•Experience with network, wireless software electronics products, consumer electronics

•Background in wireless communications (link budget, noise figure; etc.)

•Java/JavaScript and other language experience a plus

•Experience developing web based UIs for device configuration

•JSON experience, experience with RESTful API’s

•Scripting language experience such as Perl

•Experience with cloud based IoT platforms
