Lyft’s engineering team is growing rapidly, and we are looking for engineering managers to help us scale. Our engineers are smart, flexible, and love solving difficult challenges. They look to their managers for organizational transparency, career development, mentorship, and honest feedback. The Mapping group at Lyft is responsible for all of the parts of Lyft that are powered by our knowledge of the physical world. There are four key organizations within Mapping: Routing, Localization, Places, and Basemap.

Routing builds on our understanding of the road networks around the world to calculate ETAs and potential routes for drivers to pick up riders and then to get them to their destination. This team is central to our decision making framework for how we price rides, match riders with drivers, and make decisions to optimize our network.

We are looking for an exceptional Director to run the Routing engineering teams. The Director of Engineering, Routing will be accountable for delivering the goals above by supporting a group of talented engineers, engineering managers, as well as cross-functional counterparts.

Responsibilities:

• Lead teams of talented engineering managers and IC engineers; support their career growth.
• Continue scaling the Routing engineering org by hiring world class people.
• Set long term vision for the Routing architecture and capabilities across Lyft.
• Empower the engineering teams to achieve the goals with proper accountability and autonomy.
• Be the engineering point of contact for product and business stakeholders and help ensure cross functional alignment.
• Promote healthy culture and best practices in the Routing as well as Lyft wide

Experience & Skills:

• 5+ years of industry experience managing highly technical, service oriented engineering teams. Ideal experience is within the Mapping and Routing domain.
• 10+ years of total engineering experience with large scale platform/infrastructure software.
• Track record of collaboratively working with cross-functional teams to deliver complex business goals.
• Steadfastly focused on customers, end users as well as internal teams.
• Positive attitude and willingness to roll up sleeves and dig deep to achieve goals.
