About the team:

Sift’s Developer Infrastructure team is responsible for owning the processes, systems and technologies that make our software engineers effective at their jobs. We own productivity tools that are key to making our engineers productive: including source-code repositories, containers, build-systems, deployment tools, and frameworks that allow for unit-testing, integration-testing. continuous-integration and continuous-deployment. In addition to tools and systems, we are evangelists for design-principles, processes and projects that promote quality, agile software development (like strong ownership and quality practices like metric-tracking and alarming). In addition we own AWS fleet management, security systems and practices.

Skills we value in this role:

Communication: Your customer will be the developer community, so the ability to motivate, teach, listen and empathize with software engineers is required. In this role you will be working to roll out new technologies, processes and practices that improves our ability to delivery high-quality code quickly.

Leadership: You’ll continue and strengthen our culture of mentorship – whether you’re doing the mentoring yourself, or just facilitating it. You’ll give regular feedback, coaching folks on how to work collaboratively and have productive conversations. And you’ll check in regularly with employees about their career goals to make sure they continue to learn and grow. In addition, you will hire additional top talent for your team, and manage performance for each member in your team

Project Management: You will be a driver of change and will own projects that your team is delivering. The Developer Infrastructure team's initiatives will only reach fruition with the help of the software teams across the company. You will skillfully delegate, get commitments, create schedules, hold teams accountable and escalate as needed to deliver cross team initiatives.

Process Improvement: We’re always looking for ways to work better together and seek to codify those learnings by developing repeatable processes, systems and tools. You’ll focus on making sure our engineering principles are nurtured and reinforced through process improvements.

What you’ll do:

  • Own the systems and tools that enable the engineering organization to build, test, deploy and run production systems with the highest availability and performance
  • Own the self-service tools for engineers to provision and scale infrastructure on public cloud platforms
  • Own services frameworks for scalable development of microservices (service discovery, traffic routing, etc.)
  • Champion SRE principles and best practices within the engineering organization to improve safety, reliability, and security of our services
  • Work with engineers and leaders across the organization to improve developer productivity
  • Build out the team to achieve the above goals 

What would make you a strong fit:

  • 3+ years of leading teams & managing complex technical projects
  • Experience building out and managing cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, with tools such as Terraform, Salt, Kubernetes
  • Strong understanding of industry best practices
  • Strong collaboration skills – experience working with product management, infrastructure, and other engineering teams
