Blue Nile is seeking a Principal Front-End Engineer to be a leader in our engineering team and drive the evolution of our user experiences for both internal and external customers. 

We seek a leader who is passionate about front-end experiences and the technologies that back them. This person will work closely with other technology leaders, UX, product and marketing to deliver industry leading experience while driving the advances in our UI platform. You will work with other engineers to help grow their UI skills and lead design reviews to set and maintain best practices. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills are required; a strong sense of ownership is also critical. Your work will have executive level visibility and directly impact our bottom line.

Primary Responsibilities

• Oversee front-end design and architecture for both internal and external customer applications
• Provide web development leadership and mentoring, introducing new technologies and techniques to the teams including UI test automation
• Develop primarily using Java, JavaScript/React, HTML5, and CSS3/SASS
• Working alongside our creative team to ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs and optimize for maximum speed and scalability
• Create solid technical designs and implementations of new features and next generation software systems
• Take responsibility for the quality of released software including writing the associated unit tests
• Responsible for ongoing support and maintenance, and design with that in mind
• Openness and enthusiasm for groundbreaking and disruptive technologies; developing prototypes when necessary.

Qualifications/ Experience

• Strong analysis, design, development, and leadership skills
• Strong communication skills; you will be working with a variety of business leaders throughout the company
• Proven track record delivering high quality front-end features to production
• 6+ years of experience with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript
• 4+ years of experience providing technical leadership to junior developers
• 3+ years of mobile responsive design        
• 2+ years of experience developing with the React framework
• Experience with design patterns and frameworks. Experience with Spring MVC is preferred but not required
• Experience working with an Agile SCRUM methodology is preferred.
