The Company You’ll Join

At Carta we create owners and make private markets liquid.

We live in a world where some people live on the equity stack and enjoy exponential wealth growth and preferential tax treatment; others live on the debt stack and may work their entire lives for a company and retire only with the cash they’ve managed to save from their paychecks. Our contribution to solving the wealth inequality problem is moving people from the debt stack (payroll) to the equity stack. By making it as easy to issue equity to employees as it is to put them on payroll, we can create more owners.

At Carta, we are helpful, transparent, fair, and kind. We are relentless executors, unconventional thinkers, and masters of our craft.

The Team You’ll Work With

The Growth Product team falls under the Marketing and Channel organization. This team focused on fueling business growth in increasingly scalable and automated ways.

You will be working with the team taking on projects that are audacious. We experiment with the ideas that change the growth trajectory of our business. These ideas need inventors and champions. We nurture a team environment that promotes taking risks and being bold. We measure success not by features shipped or lines of code written, but rather by the impact we drive for the business.

Some of our favorite moments are watching our stakeholders benefit from the products that we build. We solve problems for them by deeply understanding their domain and their workflows. We serve the business, first and foremost, and invest in ourselves and each other in service of that effort. We are owners and that is the only title that matters.

You’ll join a small, cross-functional team as a Senior Frontend Engineer. Day-to-day, you’ll have opportunities to partner closely with other engineers, product managers, and business leaders. You will work closely with design to scope out work early and provide feedback. You will participate in team-wide and org-wide syncs to align on and drive best practices. We believe in smaller teams to allow for greater focus and have an immense amount of ownership over the problems that we solve. We have a strong collaborative relationship between Marketing, Product, and Engineering.  Being helpful is ingrained in our culture.

The Problems You’ll Solve

The Growth Product team will build the products and features that drive exponential growth for Carta’s core products.

As a Senior Frontend Engineer on the Growth Product team, you are primarily responsible for designing, building, and maintaining frontend components, as well as help us shape our technical roadmap for the frontend. You'll also ensure your code follows best practices around security and design principles.

The initial primary functions of the role will be iterating on our core experiences like the Launch product or features that help those early stage founders grow faster by fundraising and hiring better. You will also be helping us build a technical roadmap to scale complexity and scope of ownership of the team.

Some of the problems you could be solving include:

  • Build and use production-deployed frontend components for founder, investor, and partner experiences
  • Shape and integrate with domain-driven REST APIs
  • Work closely with product and the data team to ensure we are tracking metrics to enable product iterations
  • Help us domain-decompose existing frontend components
  • Collect technical, product, and design requirements for current and future projects
  • Work with design, product, and business functions on new projects and efforts

Our Launch product (the free version of Carta for small companies) and our new Investor Services business (that supports people like emerging first-time fund managers) have both grown rapidly over the last few months. In order to support and accelerate our growth, we need to build products that create value for our customers, starting from before they choose Carta and continuing throughout the customer journey.

The way we do that is by discovering and solving for the biggest problems that exist for the major participants in the global asset ownership map. Companies, their employees, VCs, their LPs, and law firms all face problems that, if addressed by our team, would drive measurable growth for Carta.

About You

You identify as a generalist but are regarded by your peers as deeply knowledgeable in a specific area. You understand that technology is only a piece of the puzzle, so you enjoy collaborating with others to help solve their problems. Those problems are usually lofty, complicated, and ambiguous, so your communications skills are honed and effective. You are extraordinarily mission-driven and are as excited about 0 to 1 projects as well as iterating.

You have 5+ years of frontend engineering experience and experience architecting complex user interfaces at scale. As a bonus, you have experience mentoring junior developers.

We use React and Typescript to build frontend components and Webpack for our build processes.

Other required skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience building and maintaining a complex set of systems
  • Experience working with product leads to deliver on time and on target
  • Experience shaping and integrating with domain-driven APIs

We are an equal opportunity employer and are committed to providing a positive interview experience for every candidate. If accommodations due to a disability or medical condition are needed, connect with us via email at [email protected]. As a company, we value fairness, helpfulness, transparency, leadership and build our teams around these values.
