The Challenge
The Job Platform team is part of Qualtrics Engineering Core Platform organization. The Job Platform team is building a new job platform based on OSS FaaS infrastructure. We've added scheduling and operational features, and are starting to work on workflow support. We are looking for a manager who can help the team prioritize their many competing responsibilities: operational investigations, new feature work, integrations with other Qualtrics platforms, security asks, and interfacing and onboarding our product team customers. This platform has the potential to be a game changer for Qualtrics product teams, letting us deprecate our legacy platform and enabling teams to add and modify async computations in a agile and efficient manner.
The Expectation for Success
Qualified candidates need to show experience building and operating Distributed Systems, and be able to interface with Engineering Leaders across Qualtrics to evangelize the new platform. Plusses include:
- Experience with Scala, ideally including Akka clustering
- Experience with Docker
- Experience with Redis
- Experience with serverless technologies
A Day in the Life
As an engineering manager in the Core Platform organization, your days will be anything but boring. Duties include guiding the yearly, quarterly, and per-sprint goals for the team, helping refine the team's mission as priorities change, communicating with upper management on your team's status and achievements as well as debating which priorities to fund, motivating and growing the team members (1:1's, playing to their strengths, recognizing high and low performers and adapting to each), achieving exceptional results to benefit the company, recruiting which includes sourcing, interviewing, and closing candidates, participating in sprint meetings, guiding operational meetings where you'll review metrics and incidents, and participating in design, code, and incident reviews.
What Differentiates Us From Other Companies
The Core Platform organization is essentially the AWS/Azure/Google Cloud of Qualtrics. We build intuitive, efficient, and scalable general-purpose platforms that accelerate the product teams and help them succeed. And yet, working at Qualtrics, you will get to work on a breadth of concerns that you'd never get to at a larger cloud platform organization. While there's pros and cons to any experience, the ability to work on distributed systems end to end and see the impact we have on behalf of our customers keeps our team engaged and motivated.
