Chewy is growing and we are looking to expand our merchandising systems and services team (MSS) with talented software engineers in multiple locations. This role may sit located of our FL office and is not 100% remote, but we will be operating in a hybrid model once we return to the office.


About You:

You will be a software engineer with a BS in CS, or related degree/experience, focused on mainly on middleware and backend development. Our Vendor Operations team is scaling to keep up with growth in the number of vendors we serve, and we are leaning out our operational processes and automating highly repetitious tasks so that we have capability to give our 2500+ vendors a great customer experience for the 7+ Billion in digital inventory at Chewy. We use Python, Java, R, VBA and SQL to build out automations. In this is role you will support the creation & deployment of new concept prototypes applications, system & services supporting standardization, optimization, automation, and process infrastructure of the Merchandising business & operations.


About this Team:

Our team is the cross-functional operational backbone between Chewy's Vendors and internal Chewy stakeholders such as Category Managers, Finance and Supply Chain. Our customer first mind requires us to efficiently resolve vendor issues within industry leading 2 day SLAs. We deploy lean automated processes to develop long-term customer trust, business growth, and profitability. This role will give you a chance to use your technical expertise to build novel solutions to manual processes through the adoption of the very best engineering practices, while maintaining knowledge on industry innovations, trends, and practices. You will help drive innovation, scalability, light-weight integrations, and maintainability while collaborating with operational teams, 3rd party applications and our internal engineering/IT teams.


What You'll Do:

  • Develop robust modular scripts, applications and prototypes using APIs to manipulate parse and process excel and pdf files.
  • Design, develop and implement solutions using SQL to process large volumes of data, focusing on scalability, latency, and resiliency.
  • Prototype and develop new customer experiences for internal partners and external vendor applications with web technologies.
  • Review code, implementation and provide meaningful feedback that helps other prototype engineers to build better prototypes.
  • Experience in using DevOps principles and techniques to delivery high quality software prototypes with the least technical debt possible.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience for Software Engineer.
  • Rapid prototyping project experience and advanced knowledge of Python, or Java, or similar frameworks and/or libraries. Solid CS Development experience will be considered.
  • Experience using REST APIs and JSON to connect with and 3rd party tools.
  • Excellent SQL skill to extract and parse data in code.
  • Extensive experience using Python libraries to parse, and process excel and pdf files to build and file folder structures.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, ambiguous, prototyping environment.
  • High level of innovation and engineering creativity desired, this is a building role not a maintenance role.


Bonus Experience (What Skills You'll Gain in this Role):

  • Understanding of testing automation, including the building of scrappy coding/automation for testing code faster.
  • Experience in Retail, E-Commerce or Technology Industry, Merchandising & Vendor Management focus a plus.
  • Strong engineering background building Products/prototypes that are E-Commerce scale.
  • Experience in Software Quality Processes and Atlassian Tools (Confluence, JIRA, etc.).
  • Robotic Process Automation using UI Path or similar RPA tools highly desired.
  • VBA and Excel Macros.
