Instructure takes testing seriously and we are looking for a Software Engineer in Test who enjoys working on complex problems to help improve our engineering development environment. You will work in tandem with our Data team to automate processes. We are looking for strong software engineering candidates who have a background in programming combined with a passion for software quality and test automation.

What you will be doing:

• Developing frameworks to test ETLs. Testing will include not only the resulting tables but also the infrastructure.
• Innovating on new ways to test and validate “big data”
• Enhancing our testing infrastructure (experience with AWS, streaming data transformations, containerization, deployment, and CI systems are helpful)
• Training and encouraging other engineers on the team in quality best practices

Here is what you will need to know/have:

• 3+ years professional programming.
• Experience with one or more test frameworks (eg. jUnit, TestNG, Mockito, Nightwatch, etc)
• Knowledge of relational databases (SQL)
• Big data tools experience (such as: Hadoop/Hive/Spark)
• Familiarity with data governance tools and practices
• Strong communication/presentation skills
• Strong organizational skills

Nice to have:

• Java, Scala, Node experience are all pluses
• AWS experience (Redshift, EMR, Kinesis, Athena, Lambda, DynamoDB, EC2, RDS, etc.)
• Mesos experience
• NoSql Database Experience
