Job Description

Role overview

The Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), reporting to the Chief Product Officer will own the strategic direction for Accolade’s security policies, processes, procedures and services. This position will create and reinforce our strategic vision for Accolade’s security strategy while providing direction and support to our leadership teams across the business.

A day in the life…

  • Set vision and strategy for Information Security and ensure that the company has a consistent vision and operational focus for all security related practices at Accolade
  • Develops and implements security (physical and information) strategy to include standards, processes and procedures, and guidelines for Accolade
  • Identifies and solves problems at the company level while influencing product lines and groups outside of Product and Technology
  • Provides leadership in difficult times and complex crises. Conduct thorough investigation to determine root cause and establish best practices to mitigate risk moving forward
  • Function as the decision maker on Security decisions at Accolade
  • Build trust with stakeholders by owning and maintaining an understandable, accurate strategy for Security at Accolade; make difficult prioritization decisions, and evangelize the vision constantly so all stakeholders are aligned, have context and understand where we are going long-term
  • Communicate plans and OKRs to all stakeholders on a timely basis
  • Collaborate with the Chief Product Officer, Executive Team and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of high value projects to revenue generation, cost reduction and business objectives
  • Lead the Security day-to-day functions and ensure teams are engaged and focused on short-term urgencies while simultaneously determining the long-term strategy and strategic direction in both areas
  • Manage capacity, capability and availability to ensure resource allocation meets aggressive growth business commitments
  • Develop strong partnership with Executive Leadership across the business along with teams in sales, marketing, operations and product and technology to support the creation of products and services that deliver on the company’s revenue, margin and broader business objectives
  • Own the metric measures (KPIs) used to define success for Security; make measures visible to all stakeholders and interpret them into actionable conclusion

Qualifications

What we are looking for…

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, related technical field and/or MBA
  • 15+ years of experience in managing and executing information security operations or equivalent lines of business/strategic projects; Minimum 7+ years of people leadership experience
  • Experience managing a P&L and ownership of business unit financials
  • Strong technical abilities; You are intimately familiar with SaaS development practices used to build and deploy modern software applications and provide industry appropriate security controls
  • Proven ability to lead and manage cross-functional geographically distributed teams using agile methodologies and embracing a lean start-up philosophy
  • Disciplined and organized approach to Security, with an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Expert at product visioning across multiple products and helping teams to tie to execution strategies
  • Prior experience leading a globally distributed and complex organization
  • Outstanding business judgment, interpersonal, collaboration and team building skills
  • Experience and strength in communicating with executive team and board of directors
  • Strong track record of presenting technology and displaying thought leadership both internally and externally to industry groups, partners and customers
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to collaborate across multiple functions and geographies while delivering meaningful, high-impact results
  • Thought leader, ability to influence outcomes and quickly turn data into business insights
  • Strong mentoring competencies and core values
  • Strong customer and stakeholder empathy; You must be able to channel many points of view, you may not only be the voice of the customer, but at various times the voice of marketing, finance, engineering, support and ops
