We are looking for a GL Staff Accountant to join the Seattle office with a dynamic opportunity to work on a variety of accounting tasks, projects, and initiatives to take F5’s Accounting Team to the next level! As a GL Staff Accountant with F5, you will work in a collaborative team environment that ranges across multiple business functions and be provided with exposure to a wide range of accounting matters. This role will be encouraged to own the processes on which you work. This will include contributing to process improvement ideas and the deployment of new processes related to evolving business requirements. This will also include understanding and identifying areas of risk within those processes and creating and performing controls to address those risks. What will you do?

This role will cover a wide range of areas under the scope of F5 GL Accounting, with primary focus on fixed assets, leases, and other various close duties. This position collaborates with other F5 accounting and finance team members, procurement, IT, real estate, and business team members in the US and abroad.

As a GL Staff Accountant on the Accounting Team, you will be responsible for:  

  • Cross-train with various departments on the Accounting Team
  • Review transactions posted to the fixed asset clearing account and related supporting documentation to confirm designation is accurate per US GAAP and F5 accounting policies. 
  • Configure fixed assets in the Oracle Fixed Assets subledger to assign the appropriate description, category and life based on the support reviewed. 
  • Assist with the fixed asset monthly GL close process, which requires running necessary programs, processes, and reports in Oracle eBS in a timely fashion.
  • Prepare various journal entries and reconciliations on a monthly basis related to fixed assets, accruals, and prepaid expenses.
  • Work across various functions of the business, Technology Services, Finance, and Procurement to ensure accurate and complete project accounting.
  • Coordinate with the business, finance, purchasing, and revenue operations to review and process internal orders for F5 hardware. 
  • Review and validate landlord invoices for lease activities prior to AP processing and payment. 
  • Prepare monthly sublease journal entries and confirm receipt of payment.
  • Assist with various recurring journal entries and reconciliations related to prepaid occupancy costs, asset retirement obligations, equipment lease activity, tenant improvement allowances, lease and sublease deposits, and other miscellaneous items.
  • Help lead the accounting effort needed surrounding data centers and their proper accounting treatment. This will entail identification, analysis, tracking, and new journal entries as a result.
  • Cross-train with other members of the accounting team in the areas of cash, prepaid expenses, accruals, and cost of goods sold.
  • Assist with the testing and implementation of new financial systems or systems updates and the revision or implementation of new accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Additional special projects as assigned based on ad hoc needs of the company.

Bring These Skills with You:

  • Understanding of US GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with a high attention to detail, sound professional judgment showing logic-based decision making, and a hands-on approach.
  •  Highly proficient written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across multi-department teams, domestically and globally.
  •  Highly focused & self-motivated - drive tasks from start to finish with efficiency. 
  • Effective collaboration skills. You will work on multiple tasks across various teams. Likely in a remote work environment at the start. 
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Robust skills in Microsoft Excel/Office. Experience with Oracle eBS and Blackline a plus. 
  • Strong planning and organization abilities; can multi-task effectively and front load work to meet key close deadlines.
  • Flexible and open to new ideas and processes.
  • Ability to make sound judgments or solve problems independently, knowing when to bring situations to the attention of management.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA or CPA candidate strongly desired.
  • 2+ years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience
  • High-tech industry experience also a strong plus.

Physical Demands and Work Environment 

  • Duties are performed at home or in a normal office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table.
  • Duties require you to utilize a computer, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material.

Duties may require being on call periodically and working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends) to meet critical quarter-end close and project deadlines
