As part of the Resilience group, you will collaborate with software engineers to tackle advanced challenges in the areas of networking and distributed systems. Your work as a Research Engineering Intern will involve interpreting system observability data and formulating approaches to improving systemic reliability. For this position, we are looking for a Ph.D. student who is passionate about bridging the theoretical and practical aspects of the field and redefining state of the art in research and industry.

Responsibilities:

  • You will analyze and improve the reliability of currently deployed systems
  • Develop algorithms and techniques to quantify and characterize reliability 
  • Formulate approaches to reducing configuration and automatically tuning systems with the goal of improving systemic resilience
  • Make contributions based on research activities to Open Source projects such as Envoy
  • Participate in team advancement of tools and infrastructure to evaluate reliability and track it over time

Experience:

  • Pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field and returning to a degree program after completion of the internship
  • Experience with systems programming in Go, C and/or C++
  • A passion for sustainability and/or transportation
  • Understanding of networking concepts: TCP/IP, HTTP, QUIC, and load balancing
  • Familiarity with Linux
  • Bonus for contributions to open-source projects or hands-on experience building large scale distributed systems
