Director, Data Privacy and Security Counsel
Our Opportunity:
Fast-paced e-commerce company is seeking a Director, Data Privacy and Security Counsel to join its growing legal team. The successful candidate will have significant experience with data privacy, protection and security, including compliance and strategy. This position will be based out of our corporate headquarters in Dania Beach, FL, Boston, MA or Seattle, WA and report to the Vice President & Associate General Counsel, IP/Privacy.
What you'll do:
- Demonstrating a deep knowledge of data privacy and security laws and regulations including the CCPA, CPRA, GDPR, HIPAA, GLBA, and FTC Act
- Drafting and implementing related data privacy and security policies and plans (i.e., privacy policy, data classification and handling, security incident response plan) and training of them to Chewy’s team members
- Partnering with all key business areas to ensure data privacy and security issues are appropriately considered and managed
- Working closely with the IT team to ensure that the appropriate technical and security measures are in place to prevent data loss and data breaches
- Providing advice and counseling to senior leadership, including our CEO and CTO
- Handling all aspects related to data privacy and protection including drafting contracts, assessing legal risk, advising on new projects, acquisitions and ventures, managing and assisting with litigation and regulatory matters, advising and managing audits, and overseeing security incidents and investigations
- A team player who is willing to take on a variety of tasks as needed
What you'll need:
- JD from an accredited school with exceptional academic credentials
- 10+ years of relevant experience in a top law firm or in-house counsel position with subject-matter expertise in data privacy and security compliance
- Member in good standing with the Florida/Massachusetts/Washington Bar or eligible to attain a relevant in-house counsel exemption.
- IAPP CIPP certification a plus
- Good business judgment and sound-decision making in balancing risk, opportunity, and business objective
- Strong interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships with and influencing client groups
- Highly organized and ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
- Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
