About the Company

Hazel Analytics is moving the needle on food safety and public health by building innovative B2B SaaS products for food service and retail operators, delivery companies, and other industry providers to manage food safety, regulatory compliance, and brand risks. Our proprietary technology and AI systems automatically collect data from thousands of public health departments across the US, Canada, and the UK and turn it into actionable intelligence for our users.

We’re a small team, yet punch above our weight with 250 major brands and counting - spanning 300K+ individual food service and retail locations - in our customer portfolio. Half of the top 100 food retail chains by size use Hazel Analytics technology; our customers include notable national and global brands such as Amazon, Cheesecake Factory, Target, Starbucks, Uber Eats, and Yelp. Our recent awards include the 2019 Food Marketing Institute Food Safety Innovation Award and the 2019 Sani Professional Food Safety Program Innovation Award. We've also been recognized as one of Seattle's best small businesses to work in 2020 and 2021 by Built in Seattle.

Being self-funded from the start and profitable since 2018, we take pride in responsible business growth and have a track record of generating sustainable recurring revenue.

About the role

As Hazel's first dedicated marketing hire, you will have the opportunity to shape our product marketing program, expand our company's reach in the food service ecosystem, and influence the industry to adopt cutting-edge technology solutions that advance public health. By collaborating closely with Sales, Product, Customer Success, and our CEO to define and execute on our product marketing strategy, you will have as much impact as you have aptitude and appetite for.

Our growth to date has been product-led and benefitted from healthy product-market fit, vocal user champions, and our strong brand in the domain. You will help us capitalize on this momentum through content marketing, customer case advocacy, product positioning and messaging, PR/social media strategy, and much more.

If you’re an entrepreneur at heart that enjoys the creative process of business building, then this role may be a good fit for you.

Compensation for this role is $75K to $90K, plus annual bonus, equity, and a generous benefits package (including fully paid medical/dental, 12-weeks paid parental leave, family planning cash assistance, and paid volunteering time).

In terms of work culture, our team takes pride in close collaboration, honesty, empathy, friendliness, and our commitment to diversity. We operate in an agile manner that keeps processes to a minimum and enables team members to stay focused on their work.

Although we're currently working remotely, we do plan to adopt a hybrid model (2+ days in office) once public health conditions permit; therefore, we have a preference for local candidates. However, we may consider exceptionally strong remote candidates on a case-by-case basis. Relocation assistance within the United States is negotiable. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide H1B sponsorship.

Responsibilities

You can expect to work on some of the following activities, but the final ingredients and recipe will be largely up to you!

  • Positioning and messaging — define and amplify Hazel’s who, what, why, how
  • Case advocacy program — case studies, testimonials, and campaigns
  • Content marketing — content frameworks, blogging, video, and website
  • PR and social media strategy
  • Integrated communications planning — emails, in-app marketing
  • Digital/paid advertising
  • Competitive strategy
  • Something not on this list that you sell us on!

Qualifications

The more of the boxes below you check, the better; we don't expect any candidate to match these criteria perfectly.

  • Previous experience with some or all of the marketing activities listed above
  • Previous experience marketing into the enterprise food service and retail industries
  • Previous marketing or marketing-adjacent role at a company of similar size and stage
  • Working understanding of enterprise SaaS and/or SMB, especially enterprise technology marketing
  • Aspiring entrepreneur who has grit and finds viable ways to get stuff done
  • Phenomenal verbal and written communicator who can build trust and empathy with counterparts in various roles/titles, be effective in giving and accepting feedback, and come across as articulate and credible in external communication in particular
  • Creative and resourceful: you can study a product/market, come up with a plan to approach it, and execute against your plan, pivoting along the way as needed
  • Data-driven: you’re not just unafraid of operating with data, but gravitate towards data-driven approaches
  • Proven doer and leader: you have the ability to fluidly switch between sweating the details of a digital marketing campaign to zooming out and talking high-level marketing strategy for a new product
  • Passionate: the idea of using data and technology to improve food safety and public health excites you, as does the idea of helping to expand a rapidly growing business
  • Comfortable operating in a technical environment: you don’t need to know how to code, or even talk about code, but you should be effective at translating technical concepts to non-technical audiences
