What We Do: We lead PayScale's brand, thought leadership and awareness around how our products can help individuals and employers have better conversations around pay. Additionally, we improve user engagement, grow traffic, optimize conversion rates and drive leads/revenue. Your role on the team will position PayScale as a leader on compensation topics such as pay transparency, pay brand, salary negotiation, pay equity, variable pay, and the business impact of a strategic compensation plan.

What You Do: You drive both the B2B and Consumer content strategy, reporting directly to the Director of Content Marketing. You build and drive the editorial calendar, including blog posts, proprietary studies/reports, whitepapers, videos, webinars, etc - aligning to funnel stages, personas, segments and content mapping to both the consumer and customer journey. You craft forward-thinking content for both consumer and B2B audiences, long and short form, to drive engagement with our brand and our products. You're skilled at interpreting data packages provided by our data team in order to design the narrative that will drive the messaging for each long form research package the team releases. You analyze content performance against key business metrics, reporting back to the team on a regular basis and adjusting strategy/tactics as needed to meet business objectives. Collaborating with the rest of the team, you identify missed opportunities and gaps in our content and build tactical plans to address that gap.

Day-in-the-Life: As a Sr. Content Marketing Manager, a typical day may include the following…

  • Attend the Content team's daily stand up (agile/scrum) meeting to align on the day's project priorities - things are ever-evolving here!
  • Research current human capital and compensation related topics for an upcoming series of blog posts, white papers, and social posts; begin building the key messaging
  • Drive a meeting with all-stars from Senior leadership and/or internal subject matter experts to prepare them for their participation in several pending webinar events designed to discuss compensation methodologies with SHRM's membership audience
  • Analyze reporting metrics of recent content releases and make recommendations for how to increase engagement for upcoming campaigns
  • Plan for upcoming research packages, analyzing data received from the Analytics team, building a cohesive and compelling narrative that's in concert with our other though leadership content
  • Meet with members of Product Marketing, Sales, Client Support and Client Success Management to collect intel on what our customer and prospect pains are, so we can apply those findings to our content strategy

First Year in Role:

  • Month 3: Have completed new hire orientation and have familiarized yourself with our messaging and content (blogs, white papers, webinars, etc). You’ve met with relevant teams and their SME’s that we can tap for ongoing content (Marketing, Sales, Demand Gen, Customer Success) to build expertise about our products, customers and targets and their needs. Begin to write blog posts, shadow data package process to familiarize yourself with all aspects, resources, team members and flow for these.
  • Month 6: You have established relationships with key partners and SME’s. You have learned what is important to HR Pros and Execs throughout their work year and can impact editorial planning. You will do a lot of editing and proofing at this stage so you can immerse yourself in the HR space and particularly where our products have an impact. Follow the industry to track topics that are trending and how PayScale plays in the overall space. You're now comfortably using our reporting/tracking tools and are owning monthly reporting. You've begun to lead project planning for data packages and are now familiar with all items that are required to launch and run them successfully, having defined the success metrics for each.
  • Month 12: You've established yourself as the go-to person for all things content, and have led one or two data packages. You have set baselines for what success looks like for programs, and identified how to optimize them.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree – preferably in Journalism, Marketing (or related fields)
  • 5-7 years of experience in content marketing / strategy

Skills:

  • You have strong working knowledge of SEO methodologies and tools
  • You display a strong writing/editing background that includes a wide variety of topics and audiences. You enjoy longer term/research based writing, but you are also an agile writer who can react to current events and turn around a blog post on the spot.
  • You are analytical and love spending time in data to develop actionable insights. You believe that data should be used to drive decisions and validate (or invalidate) assumptions.
  • You have some expertise with marketing automation tools like Marketo, HubSpot, Eloqua, Salesforce, and/or Bizible
  • You're a wiz with metrics/analytics tools (Google Analytics, MS Excel, Tableau) and can build and manipulate spreadsheets to help answer critical business questions and drive data-based decision-making.
  • You are proficient in working in a variety of content management systems including WordPress.

Tools:

  • WordPress: can upload, edit and publish posts. Can upload content to the larger website.
  • Google Analytics: can quickly get up to speed on how our account is set up and tracking. Produce month over month and year over year reports that drive optimization and improved results.
  • MS Excel: ability to build and analyze large spreadsheets, utilize basic formulas, and execute on functions such as pivot tables, vlookups, etc.
  • Tableau: line of sight to how reports are created and the ability to analyze their results.
  • Marketo: familiar with how campaigns are built in this tool and how to access and analyze reporting.
  • Salesforce: familiar with accessing data in that can be applied to improving and showcasing the impact of content on customers and prospects.
