About the role:

Data Science at OfferUp is looking for an experienced Senior Data Scientist to join our team.  The right candidate will have a passion for diving deep into new and existing data sources to help drive actionable recommendations. We seek to delight our users with the safest, simplest, and most effective local marketplace app on the planet. Your role as a Data Scientist will be to research, design, implement and evaluate machine learning models and algorithms to make our products more intelligent.  

This role can be in Bellevue, Washington or @Remote in the following states: Washington, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas.

• Develop end-to-end ML solutions for product improvement; from conception/research, to offline testing, then experimentation before full user base rollout. 
• Serve as an analytics advisor to solve business problems using data.
• Work with business partners to define product requirements, provide analytical support, and create models to enhance the safety of our customers.
• Identify opportunities for improvement and implement solutions across the company in product search, personalization, recommender systems, crime risk modeling, user reputation, just to name a few.

You’ll thrive in this role if you have:

• 5+ years of demonstrated experience with machine learning or data science  
• Expertise with modeling in Python, and data manipulation in SQL 
• Hands-on experience in predictive modeling and analyses to solve real business problems.  Experience in deploying and scaling ML solutions highly desired
• Deep understanding of ML fundamentals, experience in any of the following: entity extraction, NLP, computer vision, semantic learning, recommender systems, ranking, topic modeling, classification
• Strong analysis, problem-solving, data structures, and algorithm development background, experience with packages like TensorFlow, Pandas, NLTK, Scikit-learn, and other open source libraries
• Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or a related technical field. PhD preferred.
• Established communication skills for remote work - collaborating and documenting projects to partner within and across teams

Helpful, but not required:

• Experience working in e-commerce and mobile marketplaces
• Experience in the Trust & Safety, Risk domains, Search, or Advertising is desirable
• Experience integrating code into a live production environment, working knowledge of micro services and large scale systems
• Familiarity with advanced topics in deep learning
