Software Engineer I, Trade Graph
Build the first modern logistics platformThe opportunity:
Flexport is building a modern logistics platform to make global trade easier for everyone. We are solving complex problems at a global scale and disrupting a multi-trillion dollar industry that has remained stubbornly unchanged for hundreds of years.
The Trade Graph team is setting out to create a ‘digital twin’ of the world of trade. The mission of this team is to model the real world, build flexible and generalizable abstractions, ingest data from numerous disjoint 3rd party data sources, and then clean and normalize that data before providing it as a data-as-a-service solution. This incredibly complex problem requires strong technical thought leadership. Our team is at the heart of our mission to evolve from being a freight forwarder supported by technology into a technology platform that makes freight forwarding easy for everyone.
The Trade Graph team will be one of Flexport’s first forays into the world of SaaS, and we are in need of a talented software engineer to join our team and help us build our platform.
You will:
- Be part of the Trade Graph engineering team, building APIs and software products that allow our clients to consume data.
- Work closely with product managers and design to distill complex business problems into elegant technical solutions.
- Build and launch products rapidly and incrementally. We ship to production dozens of times per day.
You should have:
- Strong engineering background (could be via education, a bootcamp or internships).
- An aptitude for learning quickly.
- A bias for action. When you see a problem, you solve it.
- A love of simple, well-tested code that is easy to extend and hard to break.
- The ability to convey technical ideas in common terms to business partners, product managers, designers and engineers alike.
Our technology stack:
Our continuous releases are integrated with Buildkite and Github. We primarily build microservices using Kotlin, although we occasionally also work on the Ruby-on-Rails based monolith. Our data is persisted mainly in MongoDB and Postgres. Our stack is hosted on AWS using Docker and Kubernetes.
