Volt Athletics is seeking a software developer with production experience in two or more layers of the web application stack. This person will work alongside other experienced developers to create well-designed, robust and performant software for consumer facing web and mobile applications. This person will be an integral part of a small product development team, with considerable opportunity for professional growth and to make a real and lasting contribution to the success of the company.

The technology stack utilizes React, React Native, Ruby on Rails, and many other technologies. The ideal candidate has 1+ years experience with one or more of these technologies in a professional setting. Experience with Git, AWS, Heroku and automated testing techniques is very helpful.

Ability to work independently, as well as closely with other team members, while remaining adaptable to changing business needs is critical. All candidates must have strong communication skills. An interest in sports and fitness is helpful.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Write and maintain server side Ruby software in a multi-tier web application environment making use of the Rails framework
• Leverage RSpec, Travis CI, in-house QA and other tools to ensure your code performs as expected
• Tune existing and new APIs for maximum performance and scalability
• Work with stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements
• Participate in agile development process, with daily standup meetings and other planning sessions
• Assist client side and full-stack developers with API creation, modification and documentation

Qualifications:

• Must be passionate about building exceptional products, enjoy learning and have excellent problem solving skills
• 5+ years’ experience writing and maintaining production server-side software for multi-tier web applications
• 3+ years’ work experience on production Rails applications
• Familiarity with SOA, as well as building and maintaining APIs
• JavaScript expertise, particularly with React/React Native is a big plus
• Academic or applied experience in Machine Learning and other areas of Artificial Intelligence is helpful
• An interest in sports and fitness is super helpful, but not required

Location:

We were founded in Seattle, WA, and that's where most of the team resides. However, we've recently converted to a fully distributed team, with a growing number of employees located elsewhere in the United States.

Due to COVID-19, Volt has transitioned to a fully distributed workforce. All open positions are remote at this time, however, candidates should be based in the US with a willingness to travel to Seattle periodically. Volt has recently adopted a 4-day workweek, allowing employees to have more control over their work schedules. Unsurprisingly, this has resulted in higher levels of job satisfaction and lower levels of stress across the company!
