Engineering Manager, Privacy Engineering
Role Description
The Dropbox security team is responsible for securing data at a massive scale. Over half a billion users and 300,000 teams trust us to keep their private data safe. As such, Dropbox is investing in a new Privacy Engineering function to decrease complexity and cost while improving speed and completeness of Privacy programs to allow us to comply with laws such as GDPR and become a leader in the area.
This team is entirely new. We are looking for an EM that can iteratively deliver against the goals and show results consistently, building a backbone within the organization. With the backbone in place, the EM can expand the space or take on additional responsibilities (owning other teams). We are looking for a builder! Someone that can grow a new space into something bigger.
The ideal candidate must have a Software engineering background and solid experience leading a software engineering team. Additionally, they must be familiar with Privacy laws.
Responsibilities
- You will lead and grow the Privacy Engineering team
- You will be responsible for taking a new team, set the vision and grow it into something bigger.
- You will lead the team to stay ahead of new Privacy laws and requirements.
- You will drive the automation of subject deletion and access requests.
- You will lead a team to build capabilities to suppress third-party sharing and manage consent.
- You will drive building self-service privacy tools for Dropbox customers.
- You will aim to improve transparency in our personal data processing.
- You will have to communicate status and report on business goals to the leadership team.
Requirements
- BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics or mathematics), or equivalent technical experience
- 10+ years of total software engineering experience, including 2+ years with direct management responsibilities.
- Experience setting a vision and iteratively deliver progress to it.
- Experience with distributed systems or backend infrastructure at scale
- Experience as a software developer
- Strong on analytical capabilities to optimize solutions in a space with a lot of complex moving pieces, variables and constraints
- Ability to mentor team members on having the highest possible impact
