Do you care about understanding what customers are looking for? Interested in unlocking key insights to power personalization for a global travel platform? The Customer Insights team is responsible for Brand Expedia’s insight generation systems. These are used throughout the organization by teams to personalise online experiences to the need of the customer and identify market segments that are worth engaging. By knowing our customers we drive richer experiences and realize greater value for the company.

The Engineering Manager will be supporting software development engineers that are located in the Bellevue offices. They will be responsible for guiding dynamic teams that work on defined problems related to the customer insights and personalization - largely executed through supporting and improving the Traveler Profile and Affinity architecture. Knowledge of real-time streaming, queuing systems and machine learning would be beneficial for this role.

In this role you will:

  • Work with a dynamic development team that is spread across Seattle and Bangalore
  • Contribute product and technical strategy to build key insights that Expedia should know about its customers
  • You will support squads that are focused on solving customer problems by providing technical guidance and coaching engineers to produce effective and efficient solutions
  • You will communicate with key partners and clients while maintaining platform governance
  • Liaising with other engineering and product teams for cross team initiatives
  • Ensuring engineering standard methodology and coaching the team to solve technical problems

To be successful in this role we're looking or someone who has:

  • Familiarity with data management practices to source and publish information about customers to drive learning and insights
  • Exposure to event-driven systems and APIs to support analytics and real-time personalization
  • Driven by continuous improvement and contributing towards process and organizational change
  • Cares deeply about growing talent and supporting team members to do their best work
  • Work with multiple remote teams and time zones
  • Familiarity with Java and Object Oriented and Functional programming principles
  • Technical understanding of data management, cloud computing, event driven systems and APIs
