Lead Design Engineer, Vehicle Systems

This Lead Design Engineer will be responsible for the development of our vehicle system retrofit packages for our ultra-class haul truck hydrogen fuel cell powerplants. They will be working with the Systems Engineers and Mechanical Engineers to bring together a very complex vehicle system in our CAD/CAE and PLM software tools. They will lead the rest of the design team in the organization and integration of various subassemblies and the management of key drawing order and creation. They will work as an example to both design engineers and other mechanical systems engineers on the team and in the department.
Position Responsibilities
- Leading the design and configuration of the vehicle systems powerplant and platform
- Working with the Chief Mechanical Engineer on the haul truck system to bring the designs to reality
- Leading the design team and mechanical engineers to create and integrate the CAD elements and assemblies into the top-level vehicle design
- Maintain the configuration and release cadence in support of key milestones and branches of design options
- Conduct trade studies with the Chief Mechanical Engineer to support system-level and subsystem optimization work
- Vehicle System Drawing / Assembly tree creation and maintenance
- Mentor and guide the engineering team in proper design practices
Basic Qualifications
- B.S. Degree in Engineering
- 7+ years of experience in Design of mechanical systems
- 5+ years Lead CAD/CAE experience in maintaining configuration and integrating the work of teams of design engineers
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to lead a multi-functional design team in the creation and evolution of complex mechanical systems hardware
- Experience leading and configuring vehicle system designs including systems trade studies and branching of options
- Interface drawing creation and maintenance is a strong plus
- Full life cycle design support from concept to prototype to production is a strong plus
- CAD/CAE experience in NX/TeamCenter is a strong plus
Additional Requirements
- Occasional travel within the United States and internationally to represent First Mode to its customers, vendors, and partners and to coordinate with the FM Team in Australia
Location
- This position will be located at First Mode’s headquarters in Seattle, WA and will be required to work in office >60% of working hours
Total Rewards
Base Salary Range: $156,500-$211,500
