Navigating Cancer was founded in 2008 as the result of two healthcare and technology veterans coming together to fill a critical gap in oncology care: a better patient experience. Driven by a shared passion to leverage technology in the healthcare space, the co-founders set out to create the first patient-centered platform for oncology.

The Job:

As the Senior Architect, you will be a senior Engineering individual contributor, reporting to the CTO and work to establish and continuously mature Navigating Cancer’s agile Architecture & Engineering Practices. This contributor should fully understand the mission of the Engineering Organization.

The Successful Candidate will:

  • Work with internal stakeholders to establish and continuously mature NC agile Architecture Practices and Engineering standards
  • Evangelize, foster and enable development of high-quality architectures and architectural framework for information system development, maintenance, and enhancement efforts.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to evaluate, establish and govern Technology standards for reduction in variability and complexity in NC technology landscape. 
  • Drive the creation of cross domain reference architecture standards (Application, Microservices, Interoperability, Integration, Data, Infrastructure, Security)
  • Lead / Conduct various POC/POT and deliver reference implementation of emerging technologies. 
  • Continually work with internal stakeholders to evaluate and assess technical debt and risks to business; advise on and mitigate solution architecture risks for current and emerging initiatives and projects.
  • Participate and collaborate with the CTO and CTO staff to continuously balance short- and long-term technical needs, objectives, as well as oversee the realization of the architecture Continuum by providing guidance to members of engineering organization.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Conducts or oversees business-specific projects by applying deep expertise in subject area; promoting adherence to all procedures and policies; developing work plans to meet business priorities and deadlines; determining and carrying out processes and methodologies; coordinating and delegating resources to accomplish organizational goals; partnering internally and externally to make effective business decisions; solving complex problems; escalating issues or risks, as appropriate; monitoring progress and results; recognizing and capitalizing on improvement opportunities; evaluating recommendations made; and influencing the completion of project tasks by others.
  • Work closely with the CTO, CTO staff, Product team, developers and engineers to develop road maps for applications, align development plans, and to ensure effective integration among information systems and the IT infrastructure. Monitor technological advancements to ensure that solutions are continuously improved, supported, and aligned with industry and company standards as well as emerging business requirements.
  • Practices self-leadership and promotes learning in others by building relationships with cross-functional stakeholders; communicating information and providing advice to drive projects forward; influencing team members within assigned unit; listening and responding to, seeking, and addressing performance feedback; adapting to competing demands and new responsibilities; providing feedback to others, including upward feedback to leadership and mentoring junior team members; creating and executing plans to capitalize on strengths and improve opportunity areas; and adapting to and learning from change, difficulties, and feedback.
  • Understand the interactions between systems, applications, and services within the environment, and evaluate the impact of changes or additions. Analyze systems and perform usability testing to ensure performance and reliability, enhance scalability, and meet security requirements
  • Defines and communicates the architecture standards, guidelines, and statements of direction by facilitating the design and establishment of architecture standards or controls.
  • Reviews and contributes to architecture standards or controls which allow business needs to be met.
  • Creates architectures for large scale, high-impact, or high-cost technology solutions by collaborating with other architects to develop the target state.
  • Collaborates with project teams and business users to create architecture artifacts (for example, logical, conceptual, physical) to guide detailed design.
  • Helps make architectural choices and determine the selection of technologies based on facts and data.
  • Demonstrates a full understanding of the architecture best practices for assigned domain(s) and educates others throughout the organization on the function of architecture methodologies, governance, and standards by serving as a subject matter expert across business and/or Engineering teams, and presenting to internal and external audiences, including senior leadership.
  • Develops reports for executives, business leaders, and Engineering management to communicate the impact of architecture practices.
  • Coordinates with Engineers, development teams, architects and other stakeholders to facilitate the continuous development and drive consensus on changes to the company's architecture practices.

You have: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, CIS, Engineering, Business, or related technical field. Additional equivalent work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
  • 10+ years of software development experience (ideally large-scale integration or services development in a product or healthcare environment)
  • Minimum two (4) years in a technical leadership role with or without direct reports; architecting, designing, and implementing enterprise-scale, high volume, high availability systems
  • TOGAF, Zachmann, DoDAF, certification is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Archimate of similar standards is preferred.
  • Strong experience in developing secure & cloud-native API solutions, DevOps, API management, event-based architecture and large-scale integration is a must.
  • Prior experience in building data services for large scale structured and un-structured data sets is a plus (Data virtualization, Search, Polyglot storage). 
  • Proven experience in leading teams and mentoring other developers through change in prior roles
  • Proficiency w/a variety of languages/tools (ex. Go, Java, Node.js, API Management and development tools, IAM / IDM tools, DevOps automation tools)
  • Strong communication, client services, and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of integrated development practices and experience directly collaborating with Middle-ware, Application development teams
  • Fierce passion for collaboration and growing with others
  • Experience working in an Agile delivery environment (Scrum) is a must
