Senior Director, Technology – Media Solutions

 

As part of the Expedia Group Media Solutions Technology team, we build elite performance advertising products across our global family of brands to boost the visibility of our advertisers. You are a multifaceted, organized, self-starting technology leader and will lead an organization defining our next generation performance advertising platform. This role is responsible for all aspects of technicality, implementation, and operations of performance advertising. You will own our industry-leading TravelAds performance marketing ecosystem as well as the delivery of new, innovative visibility booster initiatives. You will apply platform thinking, building capabilities for a two-sided marketplace as well as tailored advertiser experience and the feedback loops to promote long-term marketplace health and efficiency. You will partner with other eCommerce technology leaders to define the architecture for the performance advertising auction and the integration with retail brands including how the sponsored content is delivered to our customers.

 

You will be at the helm of developing and deploying data-driven advertising performance product solutions. You will evolve our strategic vision; will partner with product to own our performance ad roadmap – creating solutions that are great for customers and advertisers, as well as all needed infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and scalability. As the Senior Director of Technology, you will be the senior most point of contact for the performance advertising product engineering team. The Senior Director of Technology plays a key role in building, leading and mentoring our growing engineering organization. As a key member of the technical leadership team, you will serve as a liaison to the larger EG Engineering community. The ideal candidate is one who has successfully led the development and delivery of complex products at scale; is passionate and knows how to get results; is driven to create and build; is operationally credible; possess a relentless focus on the customer; and can effectively build, inspire and lead teams.

 

Responsibilities

  • Hire and develop high quality engineering leaders while strengthening morale and cohesion across the teams
  • Partner with Strategy and Product teams to build the roadmap for platform evolution and product expansion
  • Provide high-level technical contributions to customer relationships and foster service-focused engineering environment
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to develop a comprehensive understanding of the key drivers and opportunities within the business
  • Handle priorities and clearly communicate expectations to department heads and the executive team
  • Provide comprehensive leadership collaborating with a variety of team members including working cross-functionally with the broader technology team at Expedia Group to drive common platforms and new services
  • Apply tools, methodologies and standard methodologies for the improvement of the product development process, and to facilitate simple fast and cloud-based releases
  • Ensure product architecture and implementation is maintainable and scalable to accommodate future development
  • Meet financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions

 

What you’ll do:

Who you are:

  • 12+ years of experience in software development with enterprise scale applications
  • Experience in ad platform or sponsored content preferred. E-Commerce background preferred.
  • Proven full stack and complex architectural experience including UI frameworks, Java, SQL and/or no-SQL databases, high-scale APIs, and big data processing
  • High degree of familiarity with Machine Learning concepts and Marketplace principles and demonstrated ability to apply these to improve business results
  • Deep knowledge of the various layers of a high-performance ecommerce technology stack
  • Led teams through fast paced development cycles; committed to automation, agile, lean-startup, continuous delivery approach
  • Demonstrated success defining and delivering against product roadmaps and establishing strong partnership with product counterparts
  • Able to work across organizational boundaries and matrixed reporting structures
  • Long-term and unwavering customer focus in order to build products which perform and can scale efficiently
  • Ability to fully understand business goals and metrics, turn data into insight, and translate requirements into actionable analysis
  • Able to present and communicate technical concepts in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, supported by excellent written and oral communication
  • Exhibit a strong work ethic and technical thought-leadership
