Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer, Hydrogen Systems Refueling Interface

This Mechanical Systems Engineer will be responsible for the design, configuration, specification, and deployment of the refueling system for our liquid hydrogen-powered haul truck and other vehicle systems. They will bring the refueling system architecture to reality through strong collaboration with the hydrogen systems engineering and mining operations teams.
Position Responsibilities
- Responsible for the liquid hydrogen refueling system components, including loading arms, refueling connections, control panels, etc.
- Responsible for the design, specification, routing, configuration, procurement, integration, testing, and deployment of the refueling system components
- Hardware design and specification, including interface definition and vendor interactions where required
- Leading and working with supporting engineers to bring elements of the refueling systems together for integration and testing
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Thermal, Aerospace, Propulsion, or Systems Engineering
- 5+ years’ experience in applications of mechanical and/or cryogenic systems engineering disciplines
- Must have experience in mechanical hardware design, analysis, and testing
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in design, servicing, and deployment of cryogenic liquid transfer hardware and processes
- Experience in the design, analysis, or testing of mechanism elements
- Experience in cryogenic systems is a strong plus
- Experience with liquid hydrogen systems is a strong plus
- Experience delivering a hardware and/or system design through its full life cycle – from concept through development and deployment – is a strong plus
Additional Requirements
- Some travel may be required to support interface development, vendor interactions, and systems deployed in the field
- Training and certification in hydrogen systems safety will be required
- May be required to climb ladders and stairs on the systems equipment during assembly and once deployed in the field
Location
- This position will be located at First Mode’s headquarters in Seattle, WA and will be required to work in office >60% of working hours
Total Rewards
Base Salary Range: $120,000 - $191,000
Mechanical Engineer II: $120,000 - $162,000
Senior Mechanical Engineer I: $141,000 - $191,000
