The Expedia Web Services (EWS) team is a huge, vibrant and growing business in Expedia Group and one of the largest contributing channels to our company’s revenue. Our EWS services provide API connectivity to our external partners so they can shop and book across our major businesses including Air, Lodging, Cars, Packages and Activities. Our team is global with offices in Seattle, India and China and our platforms support multiple Expedia Group brands including Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity, Wotif, Ebookers, Hotels.com, Travelocity, Trivago and most recently VRBO.

What makes EWS different?

• We report into our Global Marketing Organization and work across all of our major lines of business
• Scale! Our APIs account for up to 50-70% of Expedia’s traffic and manage daily request counts in the hundreds of millions
• We work with hundreds of external partners that have thousands of connections into our services
• EWS technologies enable multiple incoming traffic channels including meta search (i.e. Google and Kayak), Expedia partners like Amex and other various marketing streams

What about EWS Technology?

Our teams have flexibility to make the technology choices that best provide customer value to partners. As a member of the team, you’ll be involved in these choices and have a high level of ownership. We have decomposed our services into micro-systems to make things easier to maintain and continually deploy. When appropriate, teams build event-driven, streaming architectures and use data driven feedback loops to drive the product. Your team will be cloud-native or moving enthusiastically to AWS. We organize for feature velocity focusing on 2-week sprints. Your teams will use AWS services like Lambda, Kinesis, ElastiCache, Aurora, DynamoDB and of course EC2, ECS and S3. To further help speed things up, you’ll look to build on top of open source systems and libraries like Redis, GRPC, Akka, Cassandra, and MongoDB.

Responsibilities:

• You will delivery high quality code in time that is designed to be scalable, responsive & resilient.
• You will have the ability to learn and pick up on new technologies & existing technology stacks.
• You will have a strong sense of ownership on all Technical issues that surround EWS technology.
• you will have the ability to identify & mitigate risks/issues in your scope of the problem space.
• You will keep open channels of communication with team members

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of Experience in Software Development.
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science or related field.
• Strong Analytical and technical skills.
• Debugging abilities and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize and work independently as well as in a team environment.
• Preferred – Understanding and/or experience in Cloud based deployments & infrastructure – AWS preferred.
• Desired – Understanding of Messaging, caching, nosql infrastructure such as Kafka, SQS, SNS, Kinesis, Redis, DynamoDB, MongoDB etc..…
