Software Engineering Manager
The Imagery Processing Research and Development Team is responsible for the transformation of millions of images as they go from raw data to final products. Every pixel counts and we are continually creating solutions, finding algorithms, and reducing costs to make the result better.
We are searching for an Engineering Manager who is excited about owning one of the largest and more complex systems in our company. Our pipelines perform distributed processing across thousands of nodes in the cloud, where shaving off even just a few minutes can save large amounts of time and cost. You will act as a mentor, a business analyst, and a facilitator for projects that span the company. The team is always working to improve the quality and efficiency of our products, and we need the right person to help it grow and advance
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage a diverse team of software engineers and researchers
- Own the main pipeline for aerial image processing
- Coordinate integrations across between capture, storage, and downstream products
- Triage support requests from our operations team, and form solutions to current issues
- Guide the planning process to move the technology forward and meet business goals
- Monitor system cost, and identify areas to improve for efficiency and savings
- 3-5 years of experience as an engineering manager
- Exceptional problem solving and communication skills
- Comfortable with ambiguity, and making incremental progress
- Ability to give constructive criticism
- Ability to make decisions quickly
- Understanding of Web Technologies like HTTP, REST etc.
- Solid background in mathematics and geometry
Preferred Skills
- Experience managing budgets and efficiency deep-dives
- Experience communicating across time zones and internationally
- Experience working in a cloud environment like AWS
- Experience with image processing, or computer vision
- Experience creating and working in Docker containers
- Experience working with geospatial tools and libraries like GlobalMapper, QGIS, and GDAL
