Textio's mission is to build software that creates understanding between people. Our category-defining augmented writing platform has already transformed the way that thousands of companies communicate, and we’re looking for a thoughtful VP of Engineering to guide our engineering team through its next phase of growth.

Textio's products are widely used inside many of the world's top companies to help create more inclusive work environments. Our engineering team is responsible for building and maintaining multiple cloud-based applications designed to create delightful user experiences for our customers.

From our AWS-based platform, to the NLP, ML, and data science assets that power the platform, to our beautiful real-time user interface, as VP of Engineering, you will lead it all. You'll partner closely with teams across product and design to evolve our in-market product as well as to lead the stealth new product that we are bringing to market this year.

This is an outstanding opportunity to work across a wide range of products and technologies while building the team to support Textio's vision. You'll have a chance to work alongside recognized software visionaries, creating software that is, at a fundamental level, changing the way humans communicate.

In this role you will:

  • Lead our engineering team, developing the capabilities of that team through hiring, mentoring, and hands-on management
  • Work with your team to define an operational rhythm that balances high output with sustainable development. We care about what we build and how we build it.
  • Guide decisions around the long-term technical direction of Textio's architecture
  • Balance near-term priorities with longer-term bets, exercising strong judgment about which problems need a just-enough solution and which require deeper investment
  • Represent the Engineering team across the company. For example, understanding top-line business priorities and aligning your team's work to them, or ensuring our platform meets the data privacy requirements of our enterprise customers.
  • Ensure our service is available 24/7 by defining our livesite operations, prioritizing the right investments to support this goal, and helping to identify strategic investments that will improve our security, privacy, and availability
  • Help lead the entire company as part of the leadership team who will help drive Textio through our next wave of growth

We would love to hear from you if:

  • You have previous experience as a leader in enterprise SaaS, especially in growth-stage startup environments.
  • You have honed a broad set of management skills, including building teams with a diverse set of backgrounds and growing other managers.
  • You have experience leading teams building cloud-based distributed systems and can guide our platform through scale curves and avoid common pitfalls. Experience with modern, cloud-first architectures is a must.
  • You care deeply about the quality of the software you ship, you understand and appreciate the power of great design, and you are excited about building products that real people love to use.
  • You thrive in an environment that requires you to wear many hats and operate at multiple altitude levels.
  • You take a strong sense of ownership in the business and are excited to collaborate with partners across the organization to succeed together.
  • You have a point of view but are low ego.

We support 100% remote work for applicants who reside in the following states: California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Oregon, New York, Texas and Washington.
