The Job:

As Tango Card’s first Tax Accountant, this person will be responsible for managing relationships with external tax consultants and internal stakeholders. Reporting directly to our Chief Accounting Officer (CAO), we’re seeking someone who wants to lead and develop an internal tax function as our tax environment becomes broader and more complex as we continue to grow.


Reports To: Chief Accounting Officer (CAO)

As a Tax Accountant at Tango Card, you’ll:

  • Serve as primary liaison with external tax firm(s)
  • Keep abreast of current developments in tax areas that impact Tango Card and provide guidance to CAO and CFO
  • Perform year-end accrual review and prepare the tax provision for consolidated and subsidiary companies, as required
  • Assist and prepare federal, state, and local estimates and extension forms and calculations, as needed
  • Assist external tax firm in preparation and review of various federal, state, and international tax returns
  • Prepare and review other tax filings, including annual reports, property tax, and sales and use tax
  • Assist in federal and state audits
  • Coordinate with Accounting to ensure all data is received to complete tax-adjustment calculations and possess a thorough understanding of the book-accounting treatment of all tax-sensitive items
  • Review and update 382 studies and provide a summary of their impact on potential NOL limitations
  • R&D tax credit implementation 
  • Resolve tax issues and draft responses to tax notices and inquiries from federal and state agencies
  • Perform other tax projects as they arise

To be effective in our Tax Accountant role, you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 2+ years of experience in public accounting
  • 2+ years of dedicated tax experience as a tax accountant or tax analyst in a public accounting firm or corporate tax department
  • An understanding of federal and state taxes as well as the ability to perform online tax research

Our ideal Tax Accountant at Tango Card will have most of the following skills and experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Tax or similar 
  • CPA 
  • Experience with multi-state, federal, and international tax filings 
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and manage workload within statutory and internal deadlines
  • Ability to use pertinent data and facts to identify and solve a range of problems within area of expertise
  • Excellent organizational and verbal and written communication skills
  • PLEASE NOTE: This role is flexible up to Senior level, depending on experience
