JOB SUMMARY

As the Director of Individual Giving, you will play an important role in increasing revenue for Code.org with a focus on cultivating and stewarding large individual donations. You should have an existing network and ability to successfully follow up on leads to secure new revenue that will result in funding for the immediate and long-term goals of Code.org. Your primary focus in this role will be initiating and cultivating relationships with high net worth individuals to raise significant donations through prospect research and donor cultivation.

In this role, you will:

• Manage all individual giving programs, including: major gifts, annual and workplace giving, direct response, and planned giving

• Expand our base of support from high net worth individuals, continuously exploring new ways to uncover opportunities 

• Develop and implement national and regional donor stewardship strategies and practices to increase participation of existing individual donors, including programs such as local councils

• Developing emails, pitch decks, letters of inquiry, proposals and reports to potential and existing donors, persuasively communicating our organization’s mission, programs, and results

• Create strong systems for managing relationships with prospects and supporters, ensuring customized communication and follow-up and proactively providing visibility for the Code.org fundraising team

• Ensure timely reporting on donor deliverables by managing the grants calendar

• Collaborating with the Director of Finance & Administration on budgeting and cash flow planning

• Track all key fundraising and donor information and maintain records, reports and dashboards in Salesforce 

• Other duties, as assigned

SKILLS & QUALIFICATION

3+ years of fundraising or business development experience is required. To be successful in this role, you should also have:

• An incredible passion for our mission and an ability to inspire others to get involved

• Strong networking, presentation, and relationship-building expertise

• A reputation for being a strategic thinker, highly analytical, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly organized

• A track record of securing 6-7 figure deals or donations, including new annual and multi-year commitments

• Demonstrated ability developing proposals in a clear and compelling manner, with a proven track record of success 

• Demonstrated ability to creatively uncover new opportunities to build and maintain a robust pipeline

• The ability to thrive in a collaborative, team environment and also work independently 

• Outstanding communication and highly developed interpersonal skills with ability to be persuasive in both written and verbal communications

• Strong and thoughtful customer service orientation

• Sound judgment and professional, skilled engagement with high net worth individuals

• Proficiency using online databases (Foundation Center and others) and other sources to conduct research on potential funding prospects

• CRM database experience, Salesforce preferred

You must have a solid understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals, as well as a high level of computer literacy. You should have proficiency in working with Microsoft Office and Google Docs. While our team is currently not traveling, eventually you should be willing and able to travel up to 25% of your time.
