Job Summary:
The Fitter is responsible for assembling structural frameworks and housings from raw material. They prepare and fabricate metal components for the welding process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Verify conformance of workpieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
  • Align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.
  • Set up and operate fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinders, and drill presses, to bend, cut, form, punch, drill, or otherwise form and assemble metal components.
  • Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, or bolt straps, or bolt parts in position for welding or riveting.
  • Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter using hand scrapers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment.
  • Review any parts received from kitting area and compare the parts to the print.
  • Fabricating and revising fixtures, jigs, and gauges.
  • Operate and/or use forklifts, cranes, hoists, slings, grinders, cutting torches, hand tools, drills, punches, and instruments of measurements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associates or Technical School preferred.


Work Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of one-year of related experience and/or training

    Physical Demands:

    • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
    • Medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds.
    • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
    • Creates a work environment that promotes and encourages team members' participation to attain common and individual objectives.
    • Operate a motor vehicle, forklift, and/or other heavy equipment.
    • Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling.
    • Prolonged periods working on feet, using tools, and performing repetitive actions that entail frequent bending and stooping.
    • Read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced.
    • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
    • Visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and operation of machines.
