Role Description

We protect Dropbox, counsel Dropbox employees on challenging problems, and deal with novel issues every day while standing up for users and helping the company and product grow.

The Physical Security & Safety team is the beacon of trust, health, safety and security for our employees, customers, partners and assets, while promoting and maintaining exceptional quality of service both virtually and in-person at Dropbox Studios.
Dropbox Studios will be collaborative spaces where employees gather for in-person team meetings, large group events, and community building. These spaces will be instrumental in how we drive community and culture every day in our Virtual First experience.
The Head of Physical Security & Safety proactively manages security threats to Dropbox as well as develops and maintains processes and solutions to mitigate or respond to those risks. This role will work closely with internal Dropbox security teams, partner with cross-functional key stakeholders as well as external agencies to ensure that Dropbox has a security posture to appropriately address the health, safety and security risks that are identified to the company.
This role will lead the people and functions that make up the Physical Security & Safety team, to include the Physical Security Program Manager, Global Security Operations Center, Guard Services and Badge Operations, and will report to the Director of Physical Security, Safety and Workplace Services.
Responsibilities
- Set the vision and strategic direction for the Physical Security & Safety team
- Build, maintain and scale security capabilities aligned with business and people strategy
- Lead, coach and mentor a distributed team of individual contributor(s) and manager(s) by driving high performance and career growth
- Develop and manage team budget by working with internal stakeholders on annual planning, forecasting, financial reporting, invoicing, etc.
- Implement and maintain the Dropbox incident notification and response program for a distributed and remote workforce in cooperation with other cross-functional partners and external agencies.
- Manage and oversee 24/7 Global Security Operations Center (GSOC) and Guard Services programs
- Maximize the utilization of systems, applications and technology by developing the appropriate procedures and processes to enhance our ability to safeguard remote workforce and Dropbox Studios
- Lead the Executive Protection team (3rd party or internal) assets and plans and provide advice to the senior leadership
- Manage and conduct internal ethics investigations by partnering with cross-functional support teams such as; People, Employment Counsel and appropriate functional management
- Drive global Physical Security & Safety vendor procurement, contract negotiations and performance management; including but not limited, to defining SLAs, KPIs and QBR processes
- Oversee the Workplace health, safety and environmental programs to ensure all regulatory and compliance requirements are met
- Enforce security rules and safety standards, as outlined by corporate policies and procedures, and all applicable regulatory requirements
- Build strong inter-department relationships with Workplace Services, Community & Events and Real Estate teams to develop and implement global programs where the workplace experience and physical security intersect
- Partner with the Business Continuity, Compliance and Legal teams on risk management and strategic operational recovery plans
- Produce risk assessments and partner with cross-functional teams to identify physical security risks and vulnerabilities for distributed employees, workplaces and assets - - evaluate physical security controls to safeguard employees and premises against risk of unauthorized entry, fire, theft, vandalism, and other criminal activities.
- Build strong mutual-aid external relationships with law enforcement and other government agencies as well as private industry counterparts.
- Interact/coordinate with local municipal emergency agencies (fire and police) during emergency events
- Participate as a key stakeholder in the development of Dropbox’s Virtual First -- Security Culture and Awareness initiatives
- Create and present executive-level content that is distilled, precise and tailored to the appropriate stakeholder at the right altitude
- Provide agility and resilience to manage though change while demonstrating strong leadership skills to drive that change
- Build data-driven decision process by using bench-marking, metrics and analytics to evaluate, refine and optimize quality of programs, initiatives and events
Requirements
- 6+ years operational experience in security planning and operational execution (exposure to international locations preferred)
- Strong working knowledge of physical security and risk assessment methodologies for a remote and distributed workforce, including threat assessments of locations, buildings, and personnel
- Advanced security operational planning skills, intelligence gathering/data mining experience (personnel and physical security), and a deep understanding of risk management concepts
- Adept to staff, budget and project planning management
- Ability to lead, develop and grow team members and functions of a geographically distributed team
- Must possess strong leadership, analytical, and critical thinking skills
- Experience in collaboration with a diverse set of stakeholders, often under high-pressure conditions
- Superb communication, organization, and written skills in a global and multi-cultural and multi-generational environment
- Exposure to Health & Safety regulatory requirements
- Proven objective analysis and problem solving skills
- Must be a self-starter with the ability to think strategically and deliver programs and services in an operationally pragmatic manner
- Experience with developing standards for and compiling intelligence reports and travel advisories
- Enthusiasm for solving unique and complex security challenges and implementing creative cost-effective solutions
- Ability to manage security challenges in a ever-changing fast paced environment
- Must have the skills set and qualities of being empathic and have a natural passion for delivering exceptional service
