About the company

Hazel Analytics is moving the needle on food safety and public health by building innovative B2B SaaS products for food service and retail operators, delivery companies, and other industry providers to manage food safety, regulatory compliance, and brand risks. Our proprietary technology and AI systems automatically collect data from thousands of public health departments across the US, Canada, and the UK and turn it into actionable intelligence for our users.

We’re a small team, yet punch above our weight with 250 major brands and counting - spanning 300K+ individual food service and retail locations - in our customer portfolio. Half of the top 100 food retail chains by size use Hazel Analytics technology; our customers include notable national and global brands such as Amazon, Cheesecake Factory, Target, Starbucks, Uber Eats, and Yelp. Our recent awards include the 2019 Food Marketing Institute Food Safety Innovation Award and the 2019 Sani Professional Food Safety Program Innovation Award. We've also been recognized as one of Seattle's best small businesses to work in 2020 and 2021 by Built in Seattle.

Being self-funded from the start and profitable since 2018, we take pride in responsible business growth and have a track record of generating sustainable recurring revenue.

About the role

We are looking for a Chief of Staff / Business Operations Lead to join our team in Seattle and support our continuous growth. This is the ultimate Jane/Jack-of-all-trades position, influencing every part of our business both internally and externally. Historically, we have used the Chief of Staff role as a platform to place people in a more focused functional role at the company after about 18 months to 24 months (though this is optional and based on mutual fit, and certainly not a requirement).

Compensation for this role is $65K to $80K, plus annual bonus, equity, and a generous benefits package (e.g. fully paid medical/dental, 12-weeks paid parental leave, family planning cash assistance, paid volunteering time, etc.).

In terms of work culture, our team takes pride in close collaboration, honesty, empathy, friendliness, and our commitment to diversity. We operate in an agile manner that keeps processes to a minimum and enables team members to stay focused on their work.

Although we're currently working remotely, we do plan to adopt a hybrid model (2+ days in office) once public health conditions permit; therefore, we are only considering local candidates at this time. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide H1B sponsorship.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years (4+ years preferred) full-time experience in fast-paced and dynamic environments.
  • Experience working with vendors and supporting operational activities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • General aptitude for software and technology.
  • Comfortable collaborating and communicating with people at varying levels, junior to executive, both internally and externally.
  • Able to thrive with minimal oversight and instruction.
  • Able to receive feedback well and incorporate it into future work.
  • Highly functional with PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Highly detail oriented.

Responsibilities

Selected responsibilities for Business Operations Lead:

  • Support CEO directly on various tasks and initiatives, ranging from calendar management to client/prospect presentations.
  • Support core organizational functions, such as finance, accounting, and HR.
  • Work with external vendors such as accountants, lawyers, benefits providers, and banks.
  • Document technical issues and requests using issue-tracking software.
  • Help manage social media and other marketing functions.

Selected responsibilities for Chief of Staff:

  • Take lead on onboarding and offboarding team members.
  • Perform basic recruiting functions, such as scheduling candidate interviews, conducting initial interviews, managing candidate tracking platforms, and working with hiring managers to monitor recruiting efforts.
  • Help draft company policies and procedures.
  • Participate in brainstorming activities and document action items, follow-up plans, and roadmaps.
  • Suggest, research, and facilitate team events.
  • Manage office logistics.
