Overview

Come be part of the energy transition on Microsoft's Renewables, Risk and Carbon-free Energy Team! Our focus is sourcing and contracting renewable and carbon-free energy to meet a growing need for energy globally.

We are looking for a Program Manager to support commercial efforts securing new nuclear energy within the Cloud Operations + Innovation Team. This position will be responsible for researching and identifying new opportunities, coordinating due diligence with the office of the CTO and developing commercial structures to help accelerate the development of new nuclear resources globally.

Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing

  • Researches markets, competitors, and industry trends. Performs analyses of supplier pricing, cost, capabilities, and capacity to provide energy for Microsoft operations and uses the results to make sourcing recommendations for commercial strategies.
  • Maintains and helps execute sourcing strategies for multiple technologies of varying maturity levels that are optimized to ensure reasonable cost and sufficient continuity of supply while meeting performance metrics.
  • Supports setting procurement targets across managed categories and shares their expertise in markets, competitors, and/or technologies with sourcing engineers. Supports cost and supply chain operations needs across multiple categories and teams.

Supplier Management

  • Integrates business specifications for the most complex product categories into sole-source and/or request for information (RFI) processes. Accountable for strategic oversight of key supplier selection, improving upon supplier evaluation frameworks and ensuring supplier selection is aligned with multi-year sourcing strategies. Advises internal and external teams on opportunities and best practices for driving innovation, improvement, and transformation of supplier operational capabilities.
  • Supports contract and price negotiation for complex product categories cross-functionally, ensuring that that price, capacity, and strategic business needs are met, risks are identified and mitigated, and long-term cost reduction opportunities are realized.

Technical Engagement

  • Supports early technical engagements with cross-functional teams to determine viability of emerging technologies.
  • Recommends whether or not to introduce new technologies for the Microsoft energy portfolio and/or cloud infrastructure based on supplier capability and capacity, competitive and industry trends, long-term plans for product categories, and the impact on profits and losses. Evaluates long-term needs internally and externally, sharing insights to influence the adoption of new technologies, materials, or components internally and across industry.

Program Management

  • Supports internal cross-functional partnerships, defines processes and governance for on-boarding and managing supplier partnerships, shares best practices and drives opportunities to improve upon processes, influences near- and long-term sourcing decisions by clearly articulating technical and business implications (e.g., structuring, pricing), seeks to align investments with short- and long-term supply needs, and serves as a point of escalation to resolve supply issues and ensure continuity of supply in alignment with product and/or service roadmaps.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 4+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
    • OR Master's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 3+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements is required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check. This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 8+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
    • OR Master's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 6+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
    • OR equivalent experience.

Sourcing Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
