Glowforge is a beautiful device that sits on your desk. It uses a laser to carve and engrave products from raw materials like wood, leather, acrylic – even cardboard. If you haven’t already, check out our video on glowforge.com. While you’re there, you’ll notice something amazing: Glowforge is the largest crowdfunding campaign in history.

There is an incredible demand for what we’re creating. It’s not a geeky tool for the tech elite or a garage workshop; we’re crafting an iconic product that is going to change the way people think about creativity. Our customers include consumers, digital designers, crafters, engineers, teachers, artists, and more.

This is a full-time role in Seattle, and we are happy to help new employees relocate to this alluring city.

Why we need you?

You have seen what a Glowforge 3D laser printer can do. You can imagine the look on the face of a kindergartner turning their doodle into a real live toy, or the college student who turns an idea into a potentially lifesaving experiment.

Today, there are just a few hundred Glowforge printers in schools around the world. Most students don’t have the incredible opportunity a Glowforge could provide them. You’re the one who is going to fix that. You understand the positive changes technology can bring to student’s lives the difference you can make.

Your efforts are going to make this incredible tool available to students everywhere. From grade school to grad school, you are the one who can give them this gift of creation.

Here’s what you’ll be doing

This position offers the opportunity to build a line of business from the ground up. Today, Glowforge has woven its way into a few classrooms as farsighted teachers at all grade levels have used their credit cards or creativity to get early models to their students. The feedback from those early adopters is overwhelmingly positive. They love it. Now, we get to grow it.

Glowforge is already a massive success in the consumer space. You’re the one to extend that into education. That means building a roster of strong partners with extended reach into every level of education.

You’ll begin by talking to existing educators who’ve found incredible uses for their Glowforge printers already, and your own network of educators to learn about how they see the product. Using those stories, you’ll reach out to your current network of distributors and resellers that have strong representation in the EDU area.

Then, you’ll develop the core marketing plan for success. That includes plans for tradeshows, publications, lots of travel to potential buyers, and anything else that’s worked for you to get schools excited about this kind of opportunity.

You need these qualifications:

  • You have at least 10 years of experience actively selling into the EDU market and four-year degree or equivalent experience.
  • You’ve previously taken a product from little or no EDU presence to tremendous success.
  • You have an established list of contacts that will help jumpstart your efforts.
  • You’ve had the experience of building a sales strategy, then hiring and managing a team to execute on that strategy.

It would be nice if:

  • You have a background in education.
  • You’re experienced in selling or marketing products for making things.
  • You’re passionate about STEM and the maker movement.
  • You’ve worked at a startup or rapidly growing company and thrive in the fast pace, self-starting environment.
  • You’ve built a team from the ground up.

Please send us your resume, and – more importantly – a cover letter that tells us about your interest here. We’re excited to meet you!

There's one more, very important thing. We are an equal opportunity employer. We search for amazing people of diverse backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives. We take care of each other to create an inclusive work environment where we love to come to work every day. We hope you can join us.
