Senior Manager, Corporate IT
IonQ is developing the world's most powerful full-stack quantum computer based on trapped-ion technology. We are looking for an engineering manager to lead our corporate infrastructure and Information Technology team. In this role, you’ll manage and scale our corporate networks, internal helpdesk, directory services, enterprise software offerings, and office technology, to both help build a world-class, modern IT platform and accelerate the pace of quantum computing.
Your focus will be on ensuring our internal IT services and network scale, and that all teams in the business feel the benefits of shared knowledge, tooling, and infrastructure. We are building offices around the globe, in DC, Seattle, Toronto, and Switzerland, and need your help to make them work well and seamlessly! The ideal candidate is curious about technology and will strive to keep your technical knowledge sharp while remaining comfortable knowing your greatest impact won’t be as an individual contributor.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of IT Engineers and Network Engineers building corporate infrastructure to support the development of our quantum data centers, global offices, and commercial quantum computers
- Own and continuously improve our internal IT helpdesk, onboarding/offboarding automation, endpoint provisioning/de-provisioning, and the full lifecycle of IT assets at IonQ
- Effectively manage multiple projects, priorities, deadlines, and deliverables
- Collaborate and communicate with partner department heads (e.g., our heads of Security, Facilities, and Procurement), as well as security engineers, software engineers, physicists, external vendors, application engineers, and other engineering managers
- Manage costs across our on-prem services
- Help define key performance metrics for the team and greater software discipline
- Help us expand to multiple locations across the globe
You’d be a good fit with:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 7+ years of hands-on technical leadership and people management experience
- 5+ years of experience in Linux system administration and user endpoint administration
- 5+ years of experience with JumpCloud, Okta, or similar directory platform
- Demonstrated success in building a well-regarded internal IT helpdesk
- Experience with virtualized and containerized environments
- Experience with Google Workspace
- Strong interest in security
- Strongly capable in a scripting language of your choice (shell, Python, etc.)
- Able to identify processes in need of automation quickly, and automate them
- Able (and excited) to mentor junior engineers
You’d be a great fit with:
- An advanced degree or equivalent practical experience—untraditional backgrounds are welcome here
- 15+ years of technical leadership and people management experience
- 10+ years of experience in system administration in a Linux environment
- 5+ years of experience in network engineering
- 5+ years of experience managing heterogenous user endpoint environments (Mac, Windows, and Linux)
- Prior experience building office IT and AV environments
- Prior experience building or managing data centers
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform
The salary range for this position is $153,003 - $200,321.
Our HQ is located in College Park, Maryland and we are a 15 minute metro ride from Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in the Seattle, Washington area. Depending on the position, you may be required to be located in Washington DC, Seattle, Washington or the Toronto, Canada area. However, IonQ will be expanding into additional geographies both domestically and internationally so don’t let this stop you from applying.

The base pay component of the offer will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. The total compensation package may include other elements dependent on the position and level.
